I don't know - but I would be too! That's what mums are for. If I were you

I'd take him along to the doctors just to check it out and make sure he's

drinking loads of fluids in the meantime.

I think it must be a condition of employment that doctors receptionists are

awkward. I've known some horrors in my time!

As for the receptionists, my last practice were brilliant, they even

held Josh for his injections the first time as I couldn't cope with it.

AFAIK, you should take any toddler with diarrhoea to the doc's if it

continues for more than 48 hours.

I sometimes get around the receptionist issue by phoning and asking to

speak to either the doctor or the nurse. If they enquire further, I

just say that my 1/2/3yo daughter has been unwell for a couple of days

and I'd like to check it out before bringing her to the surgery. I also

use my local pharmacist as another first form of defence - it does seem

that if you appear to have done everything possible, then an appointment

is forthcoming.

I suppose you could as well phone NHS Direct who would almost certainly

say take him to the doctor to be on the safe side.

OTOH, I have also phoned the surgery and when they ask if it is urgent,

just been honest with them - 'Well, I'm not sure, what do you think?

She's 2yo and had D & V for 2 days? Should I speak to the doctor first?'

The longest I have left Steffi with something similar is 4 days but

after 8 hours severe vomiting and 24 hours diarrhoea it had lessened to

loose bowel motions at her regular time every day rather than Splat!

every couple of hours! (Scuse the graphic descriptions!)

FWIW, you know him best and should follow your instincts. After being

thrown out of the surgery with 'Your daughter has a cold' I was

reluctant to go back, the result of the next delay being pneumonia. On

the day she was admitted to hospital she could barely lift her head off

the pillow she was so exhausted and dehydrated and wild horses wouldn't

have kept me away from medical care.

Hope he's better soon.

Not medically qualified but your baby doesn't sound as though he is too bad,

, and that it can wait until morning. But, if your instinct tells you

he is ill, then call the Dr again. That's what they are paid for!

When mine have had the trots, it has sometimes taken a few days for

everything to get back to normal. Its as though the tummy has got used to

being in a hurry and has forgotten to slow down to normal again.

The thing is he hasn't vomited at all and seems OK in himself.

He is fine overnight too, and sleeps through. It is just a couple of

hours after any substantial food (which I try when I think he is OK -

then splat!)

Well he seems OK at night, sleeps through. I'll see how he is in the

morning, however I don't think he will be able to go to the childminder on

Thursday and I'll have to pay anyway, hope he doesn't make a habit of this

as it could get very expensive and I'll get no studying done.

Hi Helen and everybody else of course,

Yep Josh is OK, been to the doctors today as he still had a bout of YUK

this morning. Was told it was a virus (surprise surprise) got prescribed

some Dyoralyte (Yuk in the other end if you ask me). Nearly starved Josh

today, just crackers pitta bread and dry bread, so his tummy has been OK

since this morning. He is still OK in himself too, although I think he would

love a big dinner. He brought his plate to the table as we were having

dinner, saying " more " " more " . I cried, but did succumb to giving him a bit

of mash.

Me, I'm time of the month so I feel YUK too, I slept this afternoon (at

the same time as Josh) hence " being quiet " , when I/we woke it was gone 4pm

and I had to sort dinner as and I were going to Bible class. Josh

screamed for 1/2 an hour whilst I was cooking! My stress level soared! If

cooking isn't bad enough, but with screaming child aswell!

I don't think I will get a day off tomorrow either as I don't think I

can really send him to the childminders. I hope we have a better day.

Maybe I will find time to be a bit more talkative tomorrow.
