Guest guest
In today's UK national press there are warnings that the Food Standards Agency (UK Government watchdog) will issue an alert on the dangers of overdosing on vitamin and other supplements. Some levels would have to be massive to overdose where others would mean little more than a 3 fold increase. Abbreviations used: mg milligram mcg microgram (one thousandth of mg) RDA recommended daily allowance m men w women DL danger level DANGERS Vitamin A Thinning of bones, chronic headache, damage to the eyes and liver RDA m 700mcg w 600mcg DL 1500mcg Vitamin B3 (Niacin) Vomiting, gastrointestinal disturbance, jaundice, abdominal pain, anorexia, eye damage, liver dysfunction RDA m 16.8mg w 12.8mg DL 3000mg Vitamin C Stomach problems, accelerates formation of kidney stones. RDA 60mg DL 1000mg Vitamin D Thinning of bones, accelerates formation of kidney stones. RDA 10mcg DL 25mcg Vitamin E Increased risk from heart attack and stroke' fatigue, nausea, double vision, muscle weakness and gastrointestinal problems RDA m 7mg w 5mg DL 670mg Folic Acid Sleep disturbance, mental changes and gastrointestinal distress RDA 200 mcg DL 15 mg Selenium, copper and zinc Neural and other defects Selenium RDA m 75mcg w 60mcg DL 910 mcg Copper RDA 1.2mg DL 25mg Zinc RDA m 9.5mg w 7mg DL 200mg The Government's own survey figures consistently show that modern diet provides less than target levels of folic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and B vitamins for many venerable groups in society, particularly women who have lower energy requirements than men. The full report will be published on Thursday. It will argue that for the general population , taking pills is no substitute for a healthy diet. Other supplements are mentioned - I'll try to find out more later in the week. Excuse me for mentioning those supplements that aren't associated with resurfacing & THR but I'm sure there is a general interest. You can purchase chewable Melatonin at Whole Foods or Kirkman's (online) http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/CategoryProductListing@Parent_Category_ID@... I don't know about liquid. Melatonin, in addition to helping with sleep, also helps build the body's glutathione levels, which are generally depleted in our kids. Start with the lowest dose possible, 1 mg. Stick to the lowest dose. When your son is ready to swallow pills, Kirkman's makes a slow release tab but it is 2.5 mg. That's not high but stick with the lowest your child can take. My son was up to 4.5, particularly on nights when he got his MB12 shots, but now 2.5 is a good dosage for him. That and a lot of rough and tumble physical play during the day, avoidance of sugar, gluten and casein and he is a very happy kid, sleeping well and sound! And we are very happy parents! Guest guest
Basically melatonin will induce the state of relaxation that occurs before you fall asleep. There is a spray melatonin available at Vitamin Shoppe that worked for my son. Each spray is equivalent to about 1.5 mg. I have used this off and on, I found that if I use it too often he sometimes wakes up very early. So I try to use it only when he is having issues at bedtime to help relax him, and I address the bedtime issues from a behavioral standpoint, i.e., redirect to go back to bed if he gets up etc.You might find over time you will need a higher dose. This hapened to me and I went up to a 3 mg tablet, which I crush and give to him in a glass of water or juice.I hope this helps. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Yesenia, My son has taken Omega 3 for 3 1/2 years and at the beginning I noticed more language in him so I continued giving it to him. Three weeks ago, at the recommendation of some other parents I took my son to a homeopathic pharmacist in Weston (the owner of " Weston Pharmacy " at 54 Indian Trace)and had a consult with him. I figured I had little to lose since the ADHD medication the psychiatrist gave my 6 year old gave him terrible side effects (at the lowest possible dosage). The consult with the pharmacist was only $50. The pharmacist reviewed his IEP and OT eval, interviewed me and observed my son. He put him on a special Omega 3 supplement called Moxxor and a second supplement (that " matched his behavior profile " ). WOW! On day five my son was MUCH calmer than he's ever been. He was able to sit through a meal, pay attention to directions and actually be able to execute unfamiliar 2 step directions, increase eye contact, do homework together (without me wanting to cry out of frustration) and his language increased noticeably. During this time he had been without any therapies due to problems with the insurance company. (He'll be back on them next week.) He stopped jumping all over the furniture, covering his ears constantl decreased by 60% and the high pitch screams decreased too. It is 3 weeks later and everyday he amazes me with how much more " present " he is. I don't even need to use melatonin anymore because he sleeps like a log! (granted the pool time may be helping but he has had pool time before and never slept this well!) I am not saying everyone will get the same results, but it is the best spent $50 in a very long time. He did not charge me for the follow up visits so far. I have to be back in a couple more weeks because he is changing one of the supplements for something stronger per the protocol. I am so glad I gave this pharmacist a chance! His name is . If you can, make an appointment with him.
