Viv,

Yes, it could be symptoms that you are perimenopausal. Irregular cycles are a definite signal that the old ovaries are going wacky. I went through menopause at 42. I went through that as well . . . very regular periods, then odd cycles where they would be close together and then far apart. Then all of a sudden, boom! No more. Hormone levels tested at my doctor's office all read within normal ranges during that time, oddly enough.

It was quite a surprise to me to hit menopause that early.

Viv, I don't know much about menopause, but I strongly suggest you find a copy of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. The title is a little deceiving. Although, the main focus is on natural family planning, it teaches women how their bodies work from puberty to menopause. It explains all the hormone changes and symptomsof the different stages of "womanhood". I suggest that ALL women should read it and if I ever have daughters they will be given a copy as soon as they start their period! It's amazing how much better you will understand the little signs that your body gives you!

I have a question regarding menopause, if any of you ladies have experienced it (I would ask my mother but she passed away 12 years ago and I don't have any other female relatives older than me to ask).

My periods have always been like clockwork, exactly 27.5 days apart (especially since I started Atkins almost 10 months ago). My last two cycles have suddenly been very short - the last one was 23 days apart, this one was 18 days apart (TOM really upset me this time by coming unexpectedly - I have been on Induction for the past 13 days and I have been SOOO good - I went down 7.5 pounds and then suddenly bounced back up 3, not knowing it was TOM coming for an early visit!) I am 41 years old - could this be a sign that I am going into menopause? Is this one of the symptoms of it? Does anyone know?

,

I know this post was directed to Viv, but I really think I would like

to have a copy of this book. I suffer with something called PCOS and

I keep an active watch on my cycles, fertility, and just as you

said, " signals " my body gives. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks very much for the advice, , I will look for that book in my local library.

And thanks very much to Terry for your reply - the symptoms you experienced are pretty much identical to mine, so that more or less confirms what I already suspected was happening to me. I am probably going to ask my doctor for a blood test, just to check my hormone levels to see where they are these days.

Thanks again,
