They are not much easier to get into here. August and September are the

soonest last time I checked, which was a month ago. I have a couple of

names for you, I haven't been to any of them yet, but they sound better than

some. Let me know if you want them. You may need a referral from a regular

MD to get into them though.

Great! Sure, I definitely want the names of endos in the Seattle area. My doc

can call in a referral if needed.

Thanks!

Sorry,

I goofed this AM I guess. Have been on the run and trying to respond to

posts quickly. I do think it helps, though, to put names at the end of

posts. I get so confused even WITH all the names since the group has grown,

that I can't keep my foggy head on straight sometimes!

I agree with Terry,

I was going to ask the same thing.

If everyone would please sign their posts with their name at the end, it

will make it much easier for us to try to help you. We have SO many new

members right now, and each of you have a slightly different situation,

names will help us tremendously.

I have been trying to keep track by email addresses , and names, and

treatment you are on, plus how long you have been diagnosed and treated, and

what you problems are... see how I get confused ??? = :-o

For the very best answers, you will find a short history ( one line is

probably enough to jog a memory ) included in your question might help.

-Pam- am I starting to sound like my Grandmother ? LOL....she always called

out names till she happened to hit on the right one.

Hi Tori,

You have Dr. Ridha Arem in Houston. He is the author of the book The

Thyroid Solution, a very good overall thyroid book. It does take time to

get into him but I do know he is taking new patients. Once you have an

appointment, call every day for cancelations. If you tell them how sick you

are after you have an appointment made and make a pest of yourself calling

for a cancelation appointment, many times an office person will take pity on

you and get you in a bit quicker.

Good luck,

Jody

Hi Tori,

Dairy has a lot of iodine in it and that would make you feel pretty cruddy

too :(

Several in this list are doing the Blood Type diet with success, and others

with graves have found they are allergic to gluten and are doing much better

since removing gluten from their diets. Do a search in the archives on both

of these, there should be many posts for you to read, especially the gluten.

It wasn't long ago <last month maybe> that the blood type diet was

discussed at length, including the benefits.

Keep reading and asking lots of questions, you will get your life back!

Jody,

I was vegan for over a year. I started adding dairy back to my diet when I

began working in Houston. I work really long hours and it's hard to find

restaurants that serve food that isn't soaked in butter or cheese here. After

my diagnosis, I read some things that suggested eating yogurt to aid the

digestive process. Thanks to this group, I'm eliminating dairy yet again.

I probably am allergic to gluten. Bread is my favorite food. I don't feel like

I've eaten unless I've had bread. Has anyone found a tasty gluten free bread?

I read that sprouted wheat has no gluten, is that true?

I'm embarrassed to say, but I don't even know my blood type <blushing>. Before

my doc was suspicious of gd and ordered lab work, I had not had blood drawn

since getting our marriage license 4+ yrs ago! The thought of blood makes my

skin crawl <shudder> Could I tell my blood type from my lab results?

Take care,

Tori

Hi Tori,

I think it is Pam B who has a good cook book for gluten free with

amazing recipes in it. As for your blood type, ask your doctor, if he

doesn't have it, ask him to run it on your next labs. We should carry

a card around that has it on it, just in case we are ever in an

accident <God forbid>. I have known mine since a child because of the

RH factor. I am an O Negative...just good info to know and your

doctor shouldn't have a problem adding it to your next set of labs.

Did you notice when you were off of dairy if your headaches went

away? Mine did once dairy was eliminated.

Pam,

Could you post the name of your gluten-free cook book and the names of your

favorite recipes?

Jody,

When I was off dairy, I was in Seattle. My headaches decrease dramatically

there. I think it's because of all the pollution here in H-town. My starting

dairy again coincided with my return to Houston. I can tell that if I go with

out dairy for at least a week, I don't have as many headaches and I feel better

overall. Dairy increases mucous production, so it increases sinus pressure and

headaches too. It's hard to tell

what's causing my headaches on a given day!

If my surviving an accident is dependent on hospital workers finding a card in

my purse, I'm in bad shape!

Take care,

Tori

It can't hurt ;-)

Check out this url to see where Houston compares with Seattle. It can

be unnerving so not for the weak at heart.

Hi Jody,

It seems like a weekly event that a power plant here has a toxic " accident. " In

one day last year, Houston surpassed LA as America's most polluted city. I

really hate it here. I'm trying to get a job in Seattle, but the market there

is dead. I haven't even got a " Thank you for submitting your resume. " I have a

lead in Calgary that I'm hoping works out. I don't know how much longer I can

take it here. And to top it off, my husband and cats are in Seattle! I'm

staying with 's aunt and uncle here. They're staunch Southern Baptists

and drag me to church with them sometimes. I try to work on Sundays now :-) At

my first Sunday school lesson there, I learned that women should be subordinate

to their husbands. The lady teaching the lesson gave the example of a male bird

finding a worm while the female bird waited with an open mouth for him to feed

her--I kid you not! I've been out of this culture for so long, it's seems even

more bizarre than ever!

Pray that I don't kill any baptists :-)

Oh Tori,

I do so agree with you on that philosphy! The days of being subordinate are

LONG a thing of the past!!!

I hope you find something back in your Seattle area soon. It must be so

very hard dealing with this disease and have to live withour your hubby to

support you in all that is going on!

What field are you in? You have probably said, but for most of last week I

was missing a lot of posts. Seems yahoo is getting things together again

now.

You hang on, your not alone in this disease anymore, so hopefully more good

things will start happening real soon for you!

Jody, it is so hard! The only good thing about Houston is how much it makes me

appreciate my life in Seattle! People here make my husband look like an angel,

I'm so ashamed I've ever been upset with him over trivial things. At least it's

comforting to know that my irrational behavior is due to Graves'. Now, I just

hope it gets better.

I'm a financial programmer. I'm working as an independent consultant for

trading and risk manangement division of an energy company. Yeah, that's

right--an energy company. I feel like such a hypocrit! I wonder if my boss

know's how many times I've protested such things :-) I work mostly in the

financial aspects of the business, so it's easy to forget that it's actually an

oil company I'm working for. Well, it's good to know that I'm doing such a bad

job in my Graves' fog--I'm like a double agent!

Washington Mutual uses people like me a lot. I'm hoping for a chance with them.

Also, I heard a rumor that Microsoft was considering developing a trading & risk

management application--that's my dream job!

Take care,

Tori

There is an added cost if you are overweight. The link with the information is

http://www.babies-by-levin.com/weight.htm

I am overweight and there weren't any other dr's that would have even considered

doing the surgery on me because of my weight. Not only did Dr Levin do it but

it was a great success and I have a beautiful almost 3 month old to show for it!
