29 with second bout with fibroids

Hello all. Just before I turned 24, a football-sized fibroid was discovered

wrapped around my uterus. I lived in Florida at the time, but went to

Nashville, TN to see the doctor who had treated my mother with her fibroids

years before. I saw him on a Monday, and Wednesday he operated on me during

his lunch hour. He guaranteed me that I would have more down the road, so I

have had yearly ultrasounds since.

Last year, my ultrasound showed 2 small fibroids and the doctors decided to

play " watchful waiting " . My ultrasound last week showed a golf ball-sized

fibroid inside the uterus. The other two are outside and could be palpated,

but not seen, as my uterus lining is so thick.

My NP agrees with me that watchful waiting has run its course..time to get

rid of the little buggers. I am now waiting for an appointment for a Level 2

ultrasound to get a look at the other 2.

I was on Depo Provera for 2 years, last shot in August of 2002. I still have

not had a period, but have been spotting for 2 weeks. I have been placed on

10 days of Prometrium with the idea that I should have a period when I stop

it and they can see how my body reacts to having a period with fibroids.

I have been doing a lot of research on options. At this point in my life, I

have no desire for children. I have plenty of the fur and feathered kind. My

NP agrees that with my history of rapidly growing fibroids and cysts that

trying to bear a child could be dangerous to my health. I'm curious to find

out experiences of hysterectomies in others around my age. Does anyone have

any information to share? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.
