Guest guest
Dear Jen, I am sorry you are having such difficulty finding a doctor to help you with your scleraderma. This disease is frightening enough when " everything is going right " so I can only imagine how afraid you must be " hanging out in limbo " , fighting for something for your own body which is being denied you. Don't give up. I am one scleraderma patient on the AP and while I cannot say I am getting totally well, I can tell you my disease is not as aggressive as many others. So I will be pulling for you. And keep us all informed here how you manage in regard to doctor and treatment. This is your family here - lots of ups and downs and frustrations and nightmares. But there are highpoints and good sides, too, and one of those is all the information to be gleaned from others here and the other is that you are not alone. I only wish I had used the doctor so I could help you there, but can't. Guest guest
Though minimal, studies have been done (MIRA). Dr. Trentham is conducting a larger study presently. Scleroderma Minocycline Study: 6 out of 11 patients with early, but severe diffuse scleroderma finished 1 year of minocycline. At the end of 1 year, 4 of the 6 had complete resolution of their skin disease and 3 of the 4 had normal patient and physician assessments. These results are significantly superior to those normally seen in drug studies for scleroderma patients. Unfortunately, I have tried three of the doctors on the list and they have all refused to do it on scleroderma patients. They all agree that it works on RA, but say that there are no studies done on scleroderma, they believe I should continue to stay on the methotrexate. I feel so desperate and depressed. I haven't tried Armstrong yet-I will make an appt ASAP. Thanks for all your help. If you can link me up with one of her patients, that would be great! Thanks.
