I'm glad DH has a tight leash on your activity! Just use your computer as much as possible if you can do so without having to get up and move around too much. We'll always be around to keep you company online!

I'm so excited you found out the sex of the babies. Two little girls! How wonderful... and I love their names! Both some of my favorites. You take care sweetie and I'll keep you and those little girlies in my prayers.

Hello Everyone

I'm sorry that I haven't been around much lately. Jo-Ann has told me about all the thoughts and prayers that you have been sending my way. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

We had our 24 weeks u/s and so far the babies are fine. They are saying that they each weigh over a pound and a half now and are right on track as far as growth. As soon as I can get DH to scan the pics I will send them to the group. The doctor still wants me on bedrest due to the fact that I'm 50% effaced and now 1 cm dilated. DH has forbid me from doing anything more than getting up to pee and has moved my computer right next to the bed. Right now I'm just concentrating on making it another 8 weeks (without completely losing my sanity). I don't want to have these two until after 34 weeks. At least then they will only be officially 3 weeks early.

And for those of you that are really interested (hehehe) we have found out the sexes of the babies. We are having.........................

I'm so glad to hear that everything is going okay with you and the GIRLS!!

Sorry about the bed rest, but it will be well worth it in the end. Now that

you have your computer right next to you, maybe the bed rest will be a

little more bearable !

have bed-rest, but it is sooooo worth it! I wish Joleen was around she

could talk you through it a bit, with all her experience. Hang in

there, just wait, dh might move a toilet by the bed for you next, I hope

not, he sounds sweet though, I'm glad he moved the computer in for you.

I am the one that commented about the age issue...From my understanding

there is no cut off age. It is totally individual..I think in my letter I

user this verbage " If you are of a certain age it may eliminate you from

being a good candidate..however there are limitations for all ages. and a

menu of reasons why you may or may not be a good selection for this procedure

....there is no black and white....I know one of the biggest concerns is the

qualilty of bone stock. and deterioration from the disease. Being that

you are a man Im assuming you have maybe less chance of having a problem with

the bone issue. but then again I could be blowing hot air ..these are

opinions and not coming from cliniccal fact.so it would be to your best

interest to search your own options...I know there alot of people your age

receiving re-surfs as evidence from the many pos on this website Im

certainly not an expert and your best to seek the advice of one of the

surgeons that are performing the Re-surfing procedure mentioned on this site

.. There are alot of them and from what I can tell they are all excellent and

are more than quaified to access your situation and provide you with the

diagnosis and best advice and the briliiant thing is most of the consults are

free... at least mine was. After a hard search I decided on Dr. Koen De Smet

in Belgium. that is a whole other story but I couldnt be happier or more

confident...

It is well worth the effort to exhaust all options prior to THR...I alomost

went that route and and am so grateful to have been led to this website. I

WITH AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE should be considered for resurface instead of THR.

Dont think the surgeons have a specific maximum age - and if they did -

you're not it!>

with resurface rather than replacement.

(but thats probably 70 - 90 yrs)

I'm 62 and have been diaganosed with severe OA-AVN in the

right hip by my primary care phys. He referred me to the ortho

dept at Harbour-UCLA in Los Angeles for evaluation for RTHR. I

will be seeing them Jun 3.

I am certainly interested in BHR, but I saw a comment in one of

the posts recently that said if you are over 60, you're not a

candidate for the BHR proceedure. Is this true...does any one

know if there is a cut-off age for BHR? Is THR my only option?

Hi Isobel,

What NICE are saying for the NHS is that Resurfacing is more cost effective for

active people or those under a certain age than THR i.e. more money will be

spent long term if say a 40 year old was given a THR than if he was given a

Resurf. To my knowledge the NHS is not and could not have an ageist policy.

There have been failures associated with osteoporosis. You could

have DEXA (bone densitometry) of both hips to determine the amount

of bone loss. According to WHO criteria, Osteoporosis is defined as

a bone density 2.5 (SD) standard deviation below the estimated peak

density. (Young adult value). This is derived from a database which

is divided into values for male and female as well as Caucasian,

Black and asian. From this, the risk of fracture of the femoral

neck can be estimated. Males are at lower risk than females for

osteoporosis. Also, men have wider bones than women of a given

height.

I am so jealous! I LOVED everything Disney! I am glad you all had fun!

We went there last summer and loved it...I can't wait to go

back! Can't wait to see your pictures!
