Guest guest
Carol What part of PA? I live in the Pittsburgh area. I've tried several doctors myself. I've found female doctors do tend to be more understanding, at least from my experience. I once had a male doctor tell me my fibroids and heavy periods really weren't a big deal because it was only one week of the month and it wasn't life threatening. Unfortunately that was 12 weeks of the year that I was in pretty bad pain and bleeding very heavily. Anyway, I'm going to be seeing a new doctor in a few weeks so we'll see how that goes. I haven't really been able to find any doctors who specialize in fibroids in PA. Good luck, hopefully someone else will have a good recommendation. Guest guest
Carol, If you are near Philly, try Hahnemann University Hospital. I found them with a search of the internet. I'm going to try another local doc, but if I don't like his option either, I'll drive the hour to Philly. HAHNEMANN FIBROID CENTER http://www.hahnemannfibroid.com/ .................Sandi
Guest guest
I have heard good things about Dr. Glassner. I think he's somewhere around Philadelphia and will be checking him out myself. I'm not sure if he does the lap. myo. or just the abdominal but will find out.
Guest guest
Syd, This is far for you to go but I live closer to Philadelphia and I just had a myomectomy with a doctor who is located in Bryn Mawr, PA (about 25 minutes outside of Phila). His name is Dr. J. Glassner. His office number is . I highly recommend him. He is an infertility specialist and deals with fibroids all of the time. Good Luck, Lori
Guest guest
Hi , I had an abdominal with him in November of '02 and I highly recommend him. I do not know if he does lap. myos. It wasn't an option with me because of the size of my fibroid. Let me know if you have any questions on him. Guest guest
Do anyone knows about a good doctor in south Florida?
Guest guest
Lori, Thanks for letting me know about Dr. Glassner. I have not ruled out an abdominal myo. just would prefer the lap. is possible. But I'm wondering now if the abdom. wouldn't be better since the doctor I spoke to yesterday said it might be possible that he would only be able to remove the larger fibroid and let the other one go. I'm not crazy about that idea. I think I would rather just have the abdom. done and get them all out. I do have a few questions. How long was your recovery time? Were they able to remove all the fibroids? How long of a hospital stay? Also, does Dr. Glassner accept insurance? I do have out of network benefits but it seems many of these doctors do not accept insurance so you are responsible for the difference between the usual and customary charges and what they decide to charge. Could be rather expensive. Thanks so much for your help.
Guest guest
I have one that has been recommended to me that I have an appointment with on April 1st (that's the earliest I could get in with her). Her name is Helen Salsbury and she is in Pembroke Pines. Two of her specialities are in infertility and laproscopic surgery. My GP said she is very conservative and will do everything she can to help save your uterus. But since I have not had my appointment with her yet, I don't know for sure what she will say about my fibroids. Her phone number is . Guest guest
I'm in Pittsburgh, too. I had a myomectomy in Oct 2002 (10 fibroids) done by Dr. la Gosman at Magee. She is an RE and one of her specialties is fibroids. Found her by calling and talking to the nurses at Magee and asking them who was the best with fibroids. Went through several really bad docs before I found her. She's open to UAE as well as performing myos, but she would refer you to an IA, of course. Surgery was a breeze compared to my expectations and months later I feel really great with normal periods. > > Carol > > What part of PA? I live in the Pittsburgh area.
