I have a new kit in front of me so I will help you with this. I now realize

why people are confused by the F/L tube. It used to give clear instructions

on the lab sheet but on the new ones they left out some important info. I

kept a copy of my last one and noticed my new one does not have that info.

The old one said this:

" Pour off enough saliva from the noon and/or afternoon tubes to fill ¼ of

the tubes labeled FL and FT3. Cap tubes tightly. Follow the mailing

instructions below. If you pour more, DO NOT pour saliva back into the blue

cap tubes. "

The new one does not mention F/L but only the T3 so I understand why people

are confused. I guess we should contact Diagnos-Tech and let them know of

the printing error on their forms.

On your test sheet it has the following broken down in time blocks and you

should try to wake up and do it as closely in those time blocks as possible:

7-8 am

11-1 pm

4-5 pm

11-12 pm

Do not eat or drink anything (except water) 30 minutes before doing the

test. So, if you get up at 7:30 am for example, rinse your mouth thoroughly

with water for 3-4 minutes and start doing the saliva collection before

eating or even brushing your teeth.

It took me about 30 minutes to fill one but it depends on your personal

ability to create saliva. Then you can eat when you are done and put the

vial in the refrigerator.

The F/L tube is an overflow tube that you will use later (noon or afternoon)

where you will take the blue vial that you filled up 3/4 or more for that

time block and pour off 1/4 of it into the red F/L tube. The lab will use

that tube to test your sex hormones like progesterone.

Do not drink coffee or tea or any caffeinated drinks (including sodas) the

day of testing. To be safe, I would stick with only water. Caffeine will

throw off your adrenal tests. Do not eat onions or garlic or chocolate.

Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower also need to be avoided. Those can all

throw off the tests too.

As far as vitamins, it depends on what you are taking. Most will not impact

it but licorice and some others will. Don't use that the day of the test.

I refrigerated each of my vials as I filled them.

I would try to do the test on a day that you are not working if at all

possible. This is to match what the body should be doing during those times.

I know Dr. said to just follow your day but I don't think you will

get as accurate of picture. Of course, if you have to do it the day you are

working then you might not have a choice.

Saliva test questions- doing test tomorrow

Hello, tomorrow-sat i am doing my saliva cortisol testing and i

have some questions. my hypo- brain is having trouble understanding

some of the instructions, so i thought i would ask those of you who

have done this before . i REALLY want to do this right to get the best

results.

Do you do the first test 30 mins after you wake up?

How long does it take to fill the tubes 3/4 ?

What is the tube labeled F/L for ?

What are the pour off tubes for? and how do i EXACTLY fill those,...

from what other tubes?

Can i still take my vitamins during the day of testing?

Can i drink decaf tea or herbal teas during the day of the test?

Do i refridgerate each tube after i fill it,or just wait till they are

all filled then put them all in the fridge?

Last question, my schedule is strange because of shift work , do i

just do the first test a half hour after i get up?, then do the rest

of the collections at roughly 3 hours after the collection before

that ? and then do the last test = the midnight collection about 6 or

7 hours after the one before? i believe thats what canary club

told me.

I was told to =

(You should do the test with adjusted times to fit your

" day. " That is,shift the collections times to match your morning,

noon, late afternoon, and late evening.)

Dr.

Im sorry for the dumb questions.

thank you very much ,sherie

.
