Hi Becky,

Fiona stands 43 " and weighs 37 lbs, so she looks similar to Ricky. But since she

is more than one year younger and a girl she is higher in the charts. Her lung

problems are little, but then she doesn't eat a lot. Maybe our kids are just

skinny and if they wouldn't have CF we would not waste a single thought about

their shape.

What I don't get from your post is, why you think a g-tube could be of help. If

Ricky likes to eat and gets a lot of calories from his food, then why bother him

and you with a tube?

What about starting some kind of workout with him? I have been underweight for

the first twenty-five years of my life, until I didn't like what I saw in the

mirror anymore. I went into a gym twice a week and within two years I put on 25

lbs. It may sound unbelievable to some, but the only way for me to put on some

weight was to build up some muscles. I could eat tons of chocolat or other

calorie bombs without gaining a single ounce of fat from it.

Maybe that will work for Ricky too and on top of that your hubby could get more

involved with Ricky's physiotherapy that way. Fiona loves to do gymnastics with

me on the weekends.

Torsten,

Just so you know, I think Fiona sounds like she is doing well! 37 is a

LOVELY weight - don't worry too much about her not eating a lot. I think

you're right - that may just be her build, especially if you had trouble

gaining weight.

Santosh eats quite a bit - more than his sister -is only 39 inches and

weighs 29 pounds. However, I don't worry, because Leela, although very tall

for her age at 33.5 inches, weighs a mere 21 pounds which is lower on the

charts than Santosh was at her age.

So, it's all in the genes.

A little irony for you there!

the dr always were yelling at us to gain weight, brandon has always been in

the 5th percentile for weight, and the 15-20 for height.

my whole family is a stick until puberty and then blossom from there, but

there major concern is for height you need nutrition, for nutrition you

need weight gain. so they work hand in hand.

if they are not gaining weight then they will not grow.

Hi

from our experiences with Fiona I can't second that. Due to her colds,

the broken leg and little apettite Fiona hasn't gained weight for half

a year now, but she grew almost two inches. While she has been on the

95th percentile for height all her life, she has jumped on the weight

chart from under 20 to over 75 and now back to 50. Don't know if it's

just Fiona and what's the reason for her constant growth.
