Hi,

Hi,

I have not heard of anyone to date needing an amputation as a result of hip

replacement failures of any description........ I think they tend to put one

in a wheelchair/crutches with no hip - i.e. they fill up the gap with muscle

substance.........rather than amputate the leg........... I have heard of

someone walking on that 'hip' version until they died in late

80's.........so even that isn't the end of the world......... The other

thing they may do is fuse the whole lot.......... which would no doubt make

for a shorten leg but still one that could be walked on......... and not a

great idea long term believe me as someone who had a fused hip for 35

years...........

No doubt someone in world has got some dreadful infections so badly that the

whole femur died but to date noone has reported that here...........

Funny enough, my position was appearing so appalling to me 18 months ago

that I was in the process of starting to think of a leg amputation as a far

better option than the weird life and body mess of continuing to live with a

long term fused hip........... That way I figured I could at least have some

sort of life in a wheel chair where no real life was possible with a fused

hip anymore............Though how I was going to have that happen was a bit

of a mystery..........smile. Don't think they will just amputate legs unless

there is some pretty sound medical reasons for doing so.......... and a

number of other things tried.
