Hi Elle -

Don't be frightened - big babies are healthy babies.

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? It can lead to large

babies. I also heard of women delivering 10 pounders vaginally,

without drugs, but that's not something I would wish on any of my

friends! I really hope you will not need a cs.

Is there a reason you are getting so many U/S, or is it standard

practice in Mexico? I don't remember seeing that you were a high risk

pregnancy.

I had the gestational diabetes test and my blood sugar has always come

back normal, so my Dr. said that isn't the reason...it's jsut a big

baby. Okay...I am hoping and praying that I don't have a 10 pounder!

YIKES! I'm even scared of a baby over 8 pounds!

I'm not sure what the standard practice of u/s in Mexico are. My Dr.

said I did fall into the high risk category, so perhaps that is why he

is requiring so many u/s. I don't mind having them and insurance has

been paying for them all, so.......

I hope you are right and the size of our baby is only telling us that

he or she is just as healthy as can be!

Elle,

I think you just have a very healthy baby in there! Maybe he/she will slow down now and you will still have a chance at a natural birth. I've had three c-sections, so I can tell you all about them, when and if the need arises - ok? Meanwhile just enjoy your pg, it will be over before you know it.

Oh My!!!

Hi Ladies!We went to what we thought was our last u/s yesterday. Everything went well and looks great, but it won't be our last u/s. Baby is measuring very large. At 32 weeks 2 days, baby is 5 lbs. 14 oz.YIKES!!! At least I now know where some of the weight I've been gaining is going! LOL!!! My Dr. is going to do some pelvis measurements at our next appt (Sept 12) and then we'll do another u/s around the 3rd week of September to get another weight on the baby. He doesn't want to speculate too much at this point, but since babies gain most of their weight at the end, he's afraid the baby might be too big for me to deliver vaginally. I'm pretty small. So, there is a possibility that I might have to have a C-Section If that is the case, then he wants to schedule it sometime between Sept 30 - Oct 5. OMG! I'm so surprised at how big Roo is getting already! I hope and pray that the measurements come out all right and your Dr thinks it would be ok to deliver vaginally. But, if a c-section would be best, well then, ya know!

Wow! That is a big baby, but from everything I've read, the u/s

measurements can be off by a pound either way, so maybe Roo isn't quite that

big?! And I was just thinking, what would be wrong with trying to have the

baby vaginally and if it doesn't progress like the dr thinks it should, then

have the Csec. I know it is much more convenient for the dr to schedule the

Csec, but if you tried it the other way at least you wouldn't have to wonder

if you could have? Just an idea, for whatever it is worth.

Wellllll, all I can do is echo what the others are saying, sometimes the

measurements can be off and it throws them off as far as 2 lbs, I've

heard. Ok, my first baby was 5 lbs 13 oz.....I tore as far as one can

possibly tear, I think they call it a 4th degree....hmmmmm. Well then

Andy, my 2nd was 2 lbs 2 oz and 2 inches longer (7 lbs 15 1/2 oz) and he

was a much easier birth, very little tearing, same with Blake 7 lbs 11

oz. I did tear 4th degree again with Mikaela 8 lbs 4 oz.....so it just

depends. And eventually it does heal back to normal!!! Either way

you will have a healthy baby whatever way it comes out! My sister's both

had c-sect. The one was up and around the next day, walking the halls,

carrying the baby, etc. we even went shopping when the baby was 1 1/2

weeks old! Take it easy, you will be ok. I'm saying a little prayer for

you.

Thanks! I will definately want to talk to you should I be scheduled

for a C-Section! You've got to be a wealth of info after having had

3! What child was your vaginal birth??? I guess I'm also concerned

that if I have a C-Section, I'll always have to have them, God willing

we get pg again!

Hey AmyR!

I am also hoping the measurements were off just a bit! My Dr. said he

would rather schedule the C-Section than let me go into labor and have

to do one because it puts stress on the baby, not to mention the

Mother. I guess we'll know more the middle part of September. UGH!

I have a friend who was in labor for 14 hours and then had to have a

C-Section. Her story was awful and I definately don't want to go

thorugh that!

Elle, sorry I didn't reply to this earlier.... I had a c-section with . The actual procedure wasn't bad at all. Since I had already had an epidural they just wheeled me into the OR and did it. My problem actually was with healing, but what was wrong on that side isn't very common (I think dr error). My sil had a c-section while I was pg and after that I was extremely frightened of having one... just didn't want to do it that way. But it wasn't as bad as I expected--I took a part time job 2 weeks later. I think we kind of prepare ourselves for the worst, which sometimes can be good but other times it can cause unnecessary worry. BTW... I do know someone who delivered a 10+ pounder vaginally, but she wasn't tiny. It sounds like your dr is at least on top of it, and maybe you'll get to have your baby vaginally anyway. Amy 29 weeks!! Elle,

That makes sense. I can see where going into labor and then needing

a Csec makes it stressful for mom, but I didn't know it would be for

the baby as well. I guess after the next u/s you will have decide

what is best for you and what will make your birth experience the

best possible. After all, a Csec isn't the end of the world, right?

Thanks! Oh....the tearing parts made me squirm though! That part

really scares me! I know in time it heals, but it's got to hurt like

Thanks! Nope, not a chance that we're off on the due date. Since I

had a mc and the ep, I did the HSG and then was on Clomid and had an

HCG shot just prior to BD for homework So, we're pretty confident

of the conception date. Maybe baby is just big and healthy or perhaps

the measurements are off just a bit!

Thanks so much!!! I guess there are pros and cons to delivering both

ways. And, you're probably right that we prepare ourselves for the

worst. I'm not giving up hope for a vaginal delivery though.

How is all of the unpacking coming along??? I know when we moved here

it seems like it took forever! Please don't overdo!!! I'm so sorry

Elle,

Thankfully at the time you are tearing you don't really feel it...well I

had epidurals so I didn't. Then by the time the pain starts they are

giving you pain killers!! (and ice packs!) it only takes a couple of

days for it to get better and a couple of weeks for it to REALLY get

better, then after a month you'd barely know it happened. I think the

boys had smaller butts and thighs than Mikaela does....gee that goes for

me right now! It must be a girl thing!

My only vaginal birth was my first - . With Sasha I had to have a c-section because she was breech and her legs were up beside her head (doesn't that sound uncomfortable - lol). With Casey I started to hemorrhage (sp?) internally, so they tried to induce, but it wasn't working so they ended up doing an emergency c-section because my hemoglobin (sp?) was dropping into a dangerous level. And after two c-sections, they consider it very dangerous to attempt a vaginal birth, so Tessa was an automatic c-section.

If Casey wasn't so small I probably would have been able to deliver him vaginally, but there just wasn't the weight to push him down into the birth canal. Let me know if you want more information.

One of the women who spoke last night had to be cut and she didn't

even know the midwife had done it. It sounds like you don't feel it

and I believe they numb you a little at first to.

Pam,

Even if you didn't have the epidural, you don't feel the cut. There is so much pressure from the baby's head that it makes it feel like it's burning. With the pain you are already experiencing, it makes you completely unaware of the cut. I remember my dr picking up the scissors and hearing the snip and thinking omg that should have hurt. But it didn't until after, that is - lol! Just thought I would share that.

Very lucky for us. I did have epidural with , but the hospital I went to has the policy once you reach 8 cm they get you anymore. It's so you can feel yourself pushing I think. By the time I was ready to push, I was feeling everything again. The funniest part of the whole thing was I remember thinking who is making those awful loud growling and grunting noises. I realized after that it was me. At least I wasn't screaming - lol!
