Guest guest
Blood type O is the universal donor because you do not have either the A or B antigens in your blood. Because you do not have those antigens, any blood type can receive blood or organs from you. But the converse is not true. Type A has A antigens, which would be foreign to you, Type B has B antigens which you would react to, and AB has both A and B antigens which you would react to. Therefore, if you are type O, you can donate to anyone but can only receive from another O which would also not have A or B antigens. For the same reason, type AB is referred to as the universal recipient since they naturally have both A and B antigens, they can receive any type of blood. Have I thoroughly confused you now or does that help? Guest guest
Hi . Thank-you for your warm welcome. This seems like a good group. I have a number of questions, but in fairness to the group I need to surf through the messages here first to look for answers.
