Guest guest
I went for my 4 week checkup this past Saturday. I've been feeling quite well - just a few shaky days off and on with anxiety and crawling sensations throughout my body. I've been on PTU 300 mg. for about 4 weeks now (originally started with 150). Doc said my thyroid is much smaller (now only slightly swollen). He took blood to check my levels. Also I inquired about my antibodies (did he ever test for them). His response was yes...back in 1999. At that time my TPO antibodies were normal. However, the " other " antibodies were at a 63 when the average range was 0 - 43. At that time, he diagnosed me with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Now I have Graves. He informed me that the presence of antibodies in the blood back then confirms that the hyperthyroidism I have comes from Graves (he presently did do an uptake/scan and subsequent bloodwork to check my TSH,T4 before making the diagnosis). The doc said the antibodies never go away - they're always present in the blood and might rear up from time to time. He suggested remaining on the meds while he checks my levels. Also, told my husband and I that a course of 2 years on meds is appropriate prior to seeing if I could go into remission. I asked him about decreasing or maintaining the same dosage. At this point, He recommended I continue with the meds this way until this Wednesday. Interestingly, I told him I was going to see a rheumatologist about autoimmune disorders. He said it was a good idea - particularly because fibromyalgia runs in my family. I also have IBS. Does this sound right? Also, is it too premature to decrease the meds at this point since I'm still having bouts off/on? I want to be informed because I know my levels will be in the glorious " normal range " even though I'm still having bouts from time to time. Thanks! Guest guest
Ann, Just wanted to share my experience with you as the IBS caught my eye. I too was diagnosed with IBS (diarrhea predominant). When my thyroid levels stabilized in the normal range the IBS disappeared. I feel IBS was an incorrect diagnosis for me and that my GI system was very sensitive to the extra thyroid hormone coursing through my veins while I was hyper. I hope yours disappears too when you stabilize...would be a nice little surprise wouldn't it? :-) Doris

Guest guest
You poor thing. But at least you can do something to help with the problem. Jacquie H Doctor Visit Well, the good news is that I don't have a bladder infection. The bad news is I DO have spastic bladder and am going on ditropan. I feel like an 80 yo lady with all the medications I'm on. I also have ANOTHER ear infection. He said my eustacian tube must be dysfunctional (hehe, like the rest of my head!) and I should take allergy tablets every day. On antibiotics for THAT! Sheesh. Another funny is that as soon as I got online, what was the first message I HAD to find the original to? The gross gynecological one of course! LOL! Will be replying in a minute. :-) ellen --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
I would say that it's more of a 'the bad news is I don't have a bladder infection'. The dianosis sucks. Like you needed that, huh! used to have to take Ditropan for an immature bladder, which is probably the same as your spastic one. Don't have to go, then boom, too late. Did the Dr. say if it might correct itself or what caused it to start up? Sue

Guest guest
Well, at least you know now and it can be treated. I hate to sound like a mother hen/worry wart, but have you checked with your pharmacist about drug interactions? Sissi (who is apparently only comfortable when she has something to worry about)
