Although she does have migraine headaches other times. I had idea about abdominal migraines until I had one without a regular migraine and it was then that I realized that I had them before with migraines. Also the weird thing is she is alteranting beween being constipated and severe diareaah. Could you get IBS with mito and would a child get it? The other weird thing is the severe pain is after she eats and that is when she gets the sever diarreah. Maybe it is both abdominal migrane and IBS.who knows but the docs are puzzled. What would she take for the abdominal migranes that maybe we would see a difference or for the IBS. maybe if we cant tease out what it is we will see what she responds to. She used to take elavil but the doc weaned her off of it, she took this for migranes. It could also be the dysautonomia.....ugh too confusing... Is she on coenzymeq10 or anything? Guest guest Posted February 6, 2003 Report Share Posted February 6, 2003 , I am not sure they give anything for the ab. migraines. It's very possible for someone with mito to have IBS. What you described with the constipation and diarrhea is just what Branden goes through, but it's much better than it used to be. From the way you describe it, it sounds more like the intestines are where the problem is. That would make it highly believable that it could be IBS. Have you tried a laxative at all like milk of magnesia. We did this with Branden during this period. We also did slower, more frequent g-tube feeds. Maybe doing smaller, more frequent meals for her?? Guest guest Posted February 6, 2003 Report Share Posted February 6, 2003 Smurffy The bowel problems could certainly be dysautonomia. I was diagnosed with IBS, but it was the mito all along. Anticonvulsant on a daily basis worked well for my son for his migraines and abdominal migraines. He lived with both for 10 years before it was figured out. He had to take multiple preventive meds to treat these for several years. He had many migraine triggers that we were able to identify and then the meds were reduced. He didn't go for even an hour for six months without a migraine. Treatment gave him his life back. laurie From: Mrsmurffy@... Often it also affects the rest of the gut. A side effect of the slow motility, is as the food moves slowly down the gut it sort of stagnates there and can cuase the good bacteria of the gut to overgrow(bacterial overgrowth). It is this that can cause the diarrhea, whereas gastroparesis normally causes constipation! Gastroparesis often occurs with Mito.
