Guest guest
Karah Welcome to the list. I had wondered how you guys were doing. Finding pseudomonas and staph, and having a positive fecal fat test would probably make the docs pretty concerned that he does, in fact, have CF. I will be interested to see if the expanded mutation test is helpful. Let us know if we can do anything for you. Is he now on enzymes and other CF appropriate treatments? Tobi? Take care Jen
Guest guest
Welcome, unfortunately the road to diagnosis never seems to be a smooth one. It certainly sounds like you have had more than your share of bumps. I certainly wish the best for you and your son. My daughter also has an unknown/rare mutation. Where in Washington is your DNA being sent? I was told by our clinic the only places testing for so many mutations were research clinics and not places that would then reveal the results to you - perhaps since you are having a hard time getting a diagnosis they are making an exception? Good luck and welcome. Lori mom to Scout 2 wCF I am New > Hello , I am Karah my son Matt is 2 and we are searching for a > positive dx. Guest guest
KArah, Welcome to this list. You'll find such a great wealth of information here. I have learnt so much in the 8mths or so Ive been here. I do hope your son doesnt have cf, but on the other hand it would be nice to no for sure either way. My daughter was dx at three weeks and showed no symptoms until 12mths, so the waiting bit Ive never had to experience, ours was a bolt out of the blue. E.MAIL:ie@... Guest guest
Cyndie, Welcome to the group. I'm glad you found us, we are a group of nice people whom pretty much are in the same situation as you as far as pain ......I am also 41 have had fibro for probably 20 years. It is a very difficult illness to deal with. I basically have alot of the same complaints and more.It helps alot too if you have a dr. that understands fibro and is willing to listen to you that's the first step. You'll find alot of compassion and caring here and get alot of good advice and support. I hope your filing for SSI goes in your favor it can be a difficult process just so you know and can be prepared for a bit of a fight. Hang in there and keep posting.... Guest guest
Theresa, Welcome to this group. To answer your question for SSI it's not impossible! It's a very difficult and draining process. More than likely you may end up getting a lawyer to help you because in most cases we are denied 1 or 2 times before actually being awarded SSI. Don't want to be the bearer of bad news I'm just speaking from my own experience and from what most others say. Age however really has nothing to do with it. One piece of advice I can give you is to make sure your DR. writes down all the complaints and problems you are having because they will request your medical records and the more documentation you have the better. What state are you in if you don't mind me asking? Have you been diagnosed with cfs or fm? What treatments are you getting at this time? Sorry for all the questions but can't help if I don't know... Take Care,

Guest guest
And, if you're depressed, make sure you mention it *several* times to the doctor(s). If you're not depressed, tell them you are anyway. Depression seems to be one of the things that will get you the SSI. And I was told that by an attorney (not the one I had). It's a shame that the people that really need it have to fight so hard for it and the people that are BSing get it so easily. That's a little bass ackwards wouldn't ya say!? Guest guest
I'm sorry, but I disagree with this. To tell them you are depressed, when you aren't, is lying. My guess is they would figure it out anyway, and for the many that are, it seems to diminish their situation. Guest guest
I disagreed with it at first too, but when you have someone that *needs* to be on SSI and they won't give it to you unless you are depressed (which I think is totally ridiculous when you have so many other problems), you've got to do something. Mentioning depression helps. I'm not saying telling them you have depression so bad that you want to die, I'm saying mentioning that you are depressed about the situation of your health problems. People that have the problem that alot of us do, usually are depressed, they are depressed about the situation that they are in, some may not even realize it, but when they are having a bad flare or sitting there crying because of what used to be, that is why they call it " situation depression. " It doesn't diminish anyones situation at all, it would seem to me that it would help the situation, especially if they got the SSI that they *need,* not only for the monthly income, but the medical benefits that it covers. Guest guest
I would think it would be difficult to " pass off " depression. When I was diagnosed with Clinical Depression, it was done by the use of a test called the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - I think). This is not a test that can be cheated on. I would hope that, even in this day and age of what I call wholesale depression, where everyone who is a " little sad " is on their way to the doctor for Prozac, that most MD's would be a little careful about prescribing SSRI's to non-confirmed cases of depression. In my personal case, what I thought was totally CFS turned out to be in part depression, and when I was prescribed Prozac it did help quite a bit with the Fatigue. However, when I met my husband, we could no longer tolerate the sexual side effects of the SSRI's, including Wellbutrin which I ultimately ended up on. I swear they changed my whole libido structure (prompting my earlier posts). Anyway, sorry to go on and on, but I just think that if groups like us fight harder to have the CFS and Fibro recognized more by the medical community we won't have to hide behind diagnoses like depression to get the help we need. > I disagreed with it at first too, but when you have someone that *needs* to > be on SSI and they won't give it to you unless you are depressed (which I > think is totally ridiculous when you have so many other problems), you've > got to do something.
