Guest guest
Hey Barb, I'm In Illinois as well and I know the place your going. The dr's there are very good from what my friends say. No not everyone has problems. I had open RNY July 20, 2001 and knock on wood no problems. WHen are you having it? Who is your dr? Where in IL are you located at? Hi group, Is it normal to have so many problems from an open RNY? I've heard so many people with so many problems, makes me even more scared to have it done. I know I'm going to the best place to have it done, BTC in ILL., but still, it makes me a little uneasy seeing all these posts of nothing but problems. Barb Barb Beilfuss love2stamp@... Guest guest
Hi barb Before I had this operation, i did a certain amount of internet research on Gastric By-pass.. because australian sites and info are hard to come by, I could only go by the stories i read about on the net from those in the States (USA).. And like you, I had made myself uneasy reading about these stories.. SOme of the details in those stories were not pretty.. It would not be wise to go into hospital and have an operation that is intended to change your life without hearing about the side effects or hearing about stories about when things go wrong.. My point is that no matter what operation you may have, there is always that chance of complication which in turn can cause other problems to arise.. After that rather long winded reply, i would say NO.. it is not normal to have so many problems ( sheesh, why didn't I say that before?? ) As for my operation.. I have had no problems thus far... thankfully.. Re: Is It Normal To Have So Many Problems? Guest guest
Janet, I've been reading other people's posts...and they say they have problems with being hungry so much, with not being able to lose some weight, with a lot of pain. I also belong to a few other groups too. I " m just trying to get as much information as possible before I go ahead with the surgery. I'm glad you haven't had any problems....but I'm usually the unlucky ducky in the bunch who ends up having all the problems. I don't have a choice...I'm getting fatter every day and I want it to stop, and it won't stop unless I eat nothing at all because the extra carbs that are in my body turn immediately to fat, they don't even get digested. Hope this surgery helps me. Barb Barb Beilfuss love2stamp@...

It's not a 100% guarantee but the surgery is a valuable tool we can use, with a lot of hard work on our parts, to be successful. We still have to follow the rules, diet, exercise, supplement, etc. but the surgery helps us stay in control (most of the time). No one is perfect which is why we need the surgery and each other's support. I think all types of surgeries will have their problems. A lot depends on the individual. Everyone is different. I'm sure everyone has thought that they will be that one failure. Just keep positive thoughts and things will go smoothly for you. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reassurance. I guess I just have to pray and trust that God will take care of me, and allow the doctor's to do it right. It's so hard to trust, but this will be a true test for me. Thanks for the advice. I'll let everyone know of my surgery date and how things are going. I'm so glad you're OK, and that nothing went wrong for you, and hope it continues. Barb Barb Beilfuss love2stamp@... Guest guest
Hi Barb You're welcome.. It will be a test... BUT YOU ARE NOT ALONE... You'll have prayers from all of us here.. I'm sure most of us here have had our worries about the up coming operation.. As for me?? I worried myself silly over it... friends tell you " No.. DON'T DO IT " .. I read about all the bad stuff that could go wrong.. My mum was worried because she had a VERY BAD time with her STAPLE operation.. But I looked at it from another angle... " What do I stand from this operation being successful?? " I stood to gain my health.. my life.. I stand a better chance at gaining a love life.. I stood a better chance at keeping my job.. " Was I willing forgo the risk of complications?? " ...... YES I was.. " Was the operation worth it?? " I say it is a bit early to say, but if I am losing weight, I'm sure it was well worth the trouble..Specially when all those people who told me not to go through with this operation see me as I am now.. 20kg's down on my starting weight, and happy as can be.. In all honesty, I am not a man who prays to god... However, I DO wish you well on your journey.. May it bring you the results you desire... Re: Is It Normal To Have So Many Problems? Guest guest
Barb not all of us have problems and I would encourage you to do the research and know what is best for you as no one can or should ever make this decision for anyone but themselves Re: Is It Normal To Have So Many Problems? > Janet, > I've been reading other people's posts...and they say they have problems with being hungry so much, with not being able to lose some weight, with a lot of pain. Guest guest
Barb - It's not the norm to have problems. But having everything go smoothly isn't as exciting, so those people don't post as much. The people with the problems need help so they post more. It'll be OK, Barb.
