Guest guest
Hello. My name is Dawn and I am 36 years old and currently live in San , PR. I have one son who is 17 months old and was the miraculous result of a natural conception after many years of failed infertility treatments and being told it would never happen " the good old fashioned way. " I had placenta previa and thus had a scheduled c-section at 38 weeks. The doctor had a very hard time removing my placenta and getting my uterus to contract back down. It took 2 1/2 hours to close me up. I lost a lot of blood and was anemic but managed to avoid a blood transfusion. Eleven months later, in Sept. 2002, I was thrilled to discover I was pregnant again. But I had spotting from pretty early on and did not have a good feeling about it. At 6 1/2 weeks they saw the flicker of the " heartbeat " and at 8 weeks, no heartbeat. I had a D & C. I continued to have light bleeding and spotting for 5 weeks, and finally went back to the doctor and was told they had missed a piece of tissue the first time around, hence another D & C...Upon doing this one, no tissue was coming out, so they used hysteroscope and found the piece was very imbedded into my uterus and they had to cut it out to remove it. I had a balloon catheter for 3 days, and took premarin for a week I think, then was on the pill for two months to try to regulate my hormone, etc. I continued to have a timely period, but it was extremely light. At first I thought this might be due to being on the pill, so I waited it out. After having two more " light " almost non-existent periods, I headed back to the doctor, who sent me for an HSG. The HSG showed that my tubes were open, but at the top of my uterus, there the dye was not flowing. The radiologisted said my uterus appeared " septated. " My OB/BYN reviewed the x-rays and feels it is most likely a mild case of Asherman's. I asked how often he has seen/treated it and he said maybe 6 times in 14 years of practice, so I asked for a referral to a doctor he thinks is more experienced with performing the corrective surgery, via a hysteroscopy. I am consulting with that doctor later this week. My doctor said there is a chance it could be from my traumatic c-section, but since I got pregnant again easily, he doubts that that is the cause of the Asherman's. It was most likely caused by the D & Cs related to my second pregnancy. I would be interested in knowing if you have any doctors on your list who practice in San , and also wish to find out if the amount of time that passes between developing Ashermans and trying to correct it is significant in the odds of having a successful corrective surgery. Do the adhesions get harder to remove with time? It has been 5 months since my last D & C. We would love to have another child, but if it never happens, I will at least be thankful for my son. I am so glad to have found this group and feel for all of you. Many of you have endured much more than I have, and my heart goes out to you all. Keep the faith! Sincerely, Dawn Vaccaro
