Guest guest
Hi I've been seeing my dr regularly since mid-January when I started Atkins. I'm going again Friday and will ask him about the fingernail splitting. At the moment, they are OK -- wondering if it might have been a temporary thing -- but they are very short, and when they do split, it's a layering-type of chip. As I mentioned, I've been playing in the dirt a lot lately (gardening), and that probably didn't help a bunch. Someone else mentioned calcium, also gelatin. We get calcium in cheeses, cream, etc., so that can't be it. I looked on the Internet -- HCL was mentioned, whatever that is. Will ask the dr about thyroid, but don't have any symptoms. The only thing I DO have is high blood pressure and, even though I'm exercising every day (Curves for Women --30 minute workout) and staying very low carb, I can't seem to get the blood pressure down. It jumps around between 150-60 and 180 over 80 or 90. Am more worried about BP than anything, because I don't really want to stroke out before I get slim and trim. Have lost 27 lbs since mid-January; am in a stall, still eating the same stuff I started with, so I must be cheating somewhere... I'm not sure how to get out of this stall. Figure that if I keep eating small low carb amounts, it will eventually come off. Thanks for all of your help. This is a great list, very helpful rwrw How long has it been since you've had a physical? Nail problems can also be caused by a variety of medical problems including an underactive thyroid. Guest guest
Hi rwrw, 27 pounds in 4 months sounds like a very decent weight loss! Congrats to you! When you say stall, how long has it been since you lost pounds or inches? Sometimes your body needs a little time to adjust, so I've heard. If you are really concerned about " cheating " , have you tried Fitday to keep track of your carbs? If you post your menus here, lots of folks can give you feedback about possible hidden carbs! Sounds like you are doing great! Lynn R & R Wakefield wrote: > > Have lost 27 lbs since mid-January; am in a stall, still eating the same > stuff I started with, so I must be cheating somewhere... Even a calcium supplement is only about 60% of the recommended amount. Sue --

Guest guest
Ya know, I just gotta chime in here on this topic :-) When I was a young girl (well, wait, I'm *still* " young " thankyouverymuch! LoL) I used to bite my nails down to the nub. They'd bleed and be very painful... the whole nine yards. Nothing stopped me. My father used to put pepper sauce on my fingers and all other kinds of remedies he could think of. NOTHING would stop me. Well, lo and behold all of a sudden in 9th grade I had my first " real " boyfriend and when we would hold hands, his nails were longer than mine. Not that his were long, mind you, just his were normal and mine were bitten down to the quick and looked horrible! Do you know I was so embarassed that I *NEVER* bit my nails again. To this day, I have long, strong, beautiful nails that I am *exceptionally* proud of :-) My father used to say that if he'd known all it would take was a boyfriend, for me to stop biting my nails, he woulda let me have one sooner! hahahahaha Just my $0.02 (and still lookin for change) -Marlena > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: Re: Fingernail problem >Date: Sun, 27 May 2001 11:59:10 -0700 > > I chew mine to the nub.
