Oh I forgot neuprogen is one shot given 24 hours after chemo.

Neulasta is given every day for 3-4 days until the counts go back up.

But they are the same drug just dispensed differently.

I think you have these two reversed. I received Neupogen for several

days until my white count went back up. It also comes under another

trade name (which I can't remember at the moment). I think that

Neulasta is the one time shot.

Barry,

I am not sure what to say about the neutrophils but I know that

Procrit and Neulasta should help from what I have read. Hope

everything else has been going ok. Keep up the spirit and the body

will follow.

Barry,

If you go to the drug index of yahoo health(there's a link on the

sidebar of this site)It will explain these medications. It is very

easy to confuse similar sounding drug names.

To stimulate bone marrow to produce more white blood cells

(neutraphil count is determined from the WBC),you need a granulocyte

colony stimulating factor(G-CSF or GM-CSF).There are several

different brands and generics available.Neupogen and Neulasta are

just 2 of the available brands in the US.They can be given a variety

of different ways depending on the patient's needs.

They do not raise platelet counts, this is another factor.

Neumega, which is a brand of the generic:oprelvekin or interleukin-

11, is used to raise platelet counts. It also can be given a variety

of ways to meet individual needs.

Hope this helps!

Barry,

The side effects and other info is also listed in the drug index

that I directed you to in my previous email.I will also tell you

that when my husband was on a G-CSF he experienced a lot of bone

pain. This is a common side effect caused by the regeneration of bone

marrow, but it did go away within a few days of stopping the drug and

could be controled with the oxycodone he was on for pain at the time.
