Guest guest
>My SIL has just rung and said her 16 year old has been diagnosed with aspergers autism, but on the upper scale of it. my heart goes out to you all. I've a couple of strands of hope for you though. DS1 has mild Asperger's syndrome and we have read masses about it. One of the most helpful and positive books we have read is by Tony Attwood - Aspergers Syndrome a guide for parents and carers. In a chapter about the future prospects for children with Aspergers he says that for many of them, by the time they have reached their 30's they have adjusted to life in a way that is acceptable to themselves and society. So even if it is a misdiagnosis, there should be an expectation that he will eventually be able to cope with more independence. His carers should be working with him towards living as indepentdently as he can, which eventually might be on his own. Perhaps moving into a very caring and supportive environment will help him to grow to adulthood at a pace that is right for him. As for him not seeming to fit the diagnosis. If they needed a label to get someone else to care for him then he could have done a lot worse than Aspergers. He and the other residents may get a lot out of him being a more able person. DS1 has had a physically handicapped boy in his class since primary school, they are now in Senior 2. The pair of them have got a lot out of their friendship. The other lad is happy to take DS1 as he finds him and intentionally distracts DS1 from undesirable activities! DS1 is happy to keep and eye open for the other boy - simple things like picking things he has dropped, opening crisp packets at break etc. They both get thanks and praise from adults for caring for each other in these ways which builds self esteem for them both. DS1 had a whole bunch of congnitive function tests done, and the pattern of results from them were what pointed to Asperger's. Lots of people were very surprised when we mentioned it to them, some folks find him very odd, others can't see that there is a problem. I think that a lot depends on the quality of communication skills that the non-Asperger's person has, someone who is sensitive and adaptive will modifiy the interactions to a style and pace that suit. Someone with fewer skills and perhaps less adapability or inclination might not and so have trouble getting on with the Asperger's person. (Sorry to use labels). So perhaps your part of the family were in a better position to interact with him than his mum. I hope things start to look up for him now, perhaps being away from the negative will help him to regain his motivation. Having a loving careing Aunt, even if she is at a distance, is really important - lots of kids end up in situations like this with no one even noticing that it has happened. Can you kep in touch with him by writing and visiting / taking him out occasionally? You might get his address from your SIL for sending a birthday/ christmas card if she is feeling a bit reluctant to part with the information otherwise. Oh and it's fine by me if you want to rant - I'm sure everyone else will agree, that's what we are here for! Liz Goudie

Guest guest
Hello Shoshannah, I never had that experience with clomid but I did have an experience with OPK's.. I was taking them faithfully twice each day and the last test I got didnt get a peak. Now I dont know the following morning I would have gotten a peak I will never know but I went by my temps and cervical mucus. With clomid your cervical mucus is scantier (is that a word) but you should still have some mucus to get a up to the moment idea of where you are in your cycle. Another idea to get some more information on clomid, temping, advanced fertility is go to www.babyzone.com .. Im not trying to plug the site but the women on TTC message boards are EXCELLENT at these type of questions . Alot of them have been doing it for years. unfortunately. Joy just started a list called for TTC'ers also! She may have some advice for you also. Wishing you the best! Shonda ~WAHM to Kaitlyn(5), e(3)~ PG #3 - EDD: 4/15/03 check out: www.babyzone.com frustrated Hey Everybody, I am becoming very frustrated with my current situation. I was recently put on clomid. I have only taken it for one cycle. My ob/gyn gave me a chart which said when to take clomid and when my greatest fertility would be. He told me I could contintue with my ovulation prediction kit but that there would be no need to do so. This is the story. According to my ovulation prediction kit, I have not ovulated yet. That does not match the dates my ob/gyn gave me on the chart. According to that chart, I should have ovulated during the past six days. I have to go in for a blood test next week to see if I am ovulated which will let my doctor know if the clomid is working. I am going to keep it up with the ovulation prediction kit as well. Tomorrow morning, I will see if I am ovulating. I am getting pretty frustrated with this. Has anyone else had this experience with clomid? Sincerely frustrated, Shoshannah
Guest guest
Shoshannah, Did he tell you that you could ovulate 4-10 days after the last pill? There are even women who ovulate later than that while on Clomid. The first month I took it, I ovulated on day 30 something. The next month they put me on 100 mgs instead of 50 and I ovulated on day 20. Last month was the second time on 100 mgs and that was the month I got pg. What cycle day are you on? What is your dosage? I also used a clear plan fertility monitor which seems a lot simpler that the OPK. Let me know if there is anything more I can do to help. Guest guest
Were you ovulating before Clomid? I wasn't. I didn't ovulate at all still with the first month of Clomid. The second month I got one egg, so he gave me an HCG shot to mature it....but it didn't fertilize. The third month I got two eggs and another HCG shot. One egg fertilized. I'm 27 weeks pregnant now. So hang in there. I never bought an ovulation kit. I had to go in so many days after I took the Clomid and run the blood test and/or an ultrasound to see the egg. Hang in there. I tried without medication for 7 months with no results. After the third round of Clomid...BOOM. I think it is a great drug! Guest guest
I can only offer my experience. Both this time TTC-ing and back in 2000 when we conceived DD, my OB/GYN specifically told me to use OPK's, as Clomid does NOT cause O at any specific date. I find I usually O somewhere between cd19 and 25, and if I went by a " normal " chart I would never know I O'd because that is very late for a " normal " cycle. I would rely on the OPK's to tell you if maybe you are just O-ing later than whatever chart you were given says you should. Guest guest
Some types of Robitussin have a product in them that thins out mucus- meant for helping you cough it up/blow it out easier. Clomid can have a side effect of causing mucus to dry/thicken up which doesn't allow the sperm to swim well. The agent in the robitussin helps with this side-effect. You do have to get the right type of robitussin as not all of them have it . > Hi Nette, > > Can you explain to me how taking Robotussin helps Clomid. > > Shoshannah

Guest guest
Just so you all know its just regular robitussin (or tussin for generic names) with no letters and it doesn't MAKE CM (cervical mucus) it helps thin out what you already have. What I have found that makes me have SOME CM is V8 Splash.. its the beta carotene that helps, My RE agrees and approves :0) *~Joy~* Lap RNY @ 491lbs 2/26/01 Dr. Bertha town Memorial Hospital Mommy to: 1-9-99 & Saralyn 12-15-
