Dr. Boyd lengthened my left leg 3/4 " There was a neurosurgeon in the OR making sure the sciatic nerve wasn't stretched too far. My left leg had essentially left its shallow home in the socket and migrated up my pelvis. First he lengthened my right leg, which left me even more off balance, then evened them up when he did the left one. Sheila, The reason I make that point is that there is only so much lengthening that can be done either with resurfacing or THR. The nerves will only stretch so far before they put up a fuss, no matter how long the stem is. Fortunately my left femur migrated out of the socket only a few years before I got it resurfaced (which surprised and thrilled Dr. Boyd). If I had been born with a high hip, there might not have been enough nerve length to get the correction. C+ 5/25/01 and 6/28/
