Guest guest
Hi all, My wife and I have decided to do the South Beach Diet, actually a few weeks ago we kind of started, but we live in a country where we eat so many of the bad carbs, and as a result, we have so many in the house. Because we arent in a position to just give aay all of that food, or to dispose of it, we have just been buying new groceries according to the diet, and using our other food sparingly. Even though we havent officially started the diet, I have lost 7 pounds, and my wife is down 4 pounds. We used to eat a lot of convenience foods also, fast food on the way home or when we didnt feel like cooking; we have eliminated all of that and have only eaten out once in the last 2 weeks (just couldnt be bothered to cook). We hope to get full into phase 1 in about 2 weeks or so, and proably stay there for at least 3 weeks, as we have some heavy carb addictions to kill. I gues you can say we are in Phase 0.5 right now. Some of the things that we have changed in anticipation is changing all of our powdered jucie drinks to the sugarless kind, eating 3 meals a day (havent been able to add the snacks yet, we used to eat only 2 times a day, and snack bad things, now eating 3 times, we are finding ourselves full most of the time), and just using common sense in portion control (and we arent hungry, eating smaller portions). Hope to see those pounds coming off in the coming month, but if they dont, I will understand why, because of our gradual cutting of the carbs, the wieght loss may slow down. Enough fom me for now. Hmmmm...sounds like the US. > Even though we havent officially started the diet, I have > lost 7 pounds, and my wife is down 4 pounds. Simply eliminating the fast foods and soda pop is enough to knock off 5-10 pounds for a LOT of folks. FWIW, you can also find ways to eat healthy when eating out. For example, my family loves to hit the buffets here. These monsters have 20-30 different foods at the least, not to mention a massive salad bar. Best part about it -- the kids are young enough that they eat free. > We hope to get full into phase 1 in about 2 weeks or so, and > proably stay there for at least 3 weeks, as we have some > heavy carb addictions to kill. I gues you can say we are in > Phase 0.5 right now. LOL FWIW, you may want to reconsider extending your phase 1. In most cases it has very little positive effects. 2 weeks is enough for most folks to lose their cravings -- after that it's just a matter of willpower. > Some of the things that we have changed in anticipation is > changing all of our powdered jucie drinks to the sugarless > kind, eating 3 meals a day (havent been able to add the > snacks yet, we used to eat only 2 times a day, and snack bad > things, now eating 3 times, we are finding ourselves full > most of the time), and just using common sense in portion > control (and we arent hungry, eating smaller portions). When you finally move to phase 1 remember that snacks aren't optional during phase 1, but rather mandatory (you can skip them during phase 2 if you like). Snacks are also something nutritional; so string cheese, celery dipped in natural peanut butter, etc is ok but say jello would NOT be considered a snack). > Hope to see those pounds coming off in the coming month, but > if they dont, I will understand why, because of our gradual > cutting of the carbs, the wieght loss may slow down. You've already seen a substantial loss of weight so you may find your phase 1 loss to be far less than what most others drop -- and that's ok. Although many come to this diet to lose weight, it's not really a diet in that fashion -- the weight loss is a pleasant side effect. Once the initial weight dump is done, you'll typically lose anywhere from half a pound to 2 pounds a week. Most folks lose about a pound a week -- a nice, slow healthy weight loss. Again, welcome to the group and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
