Guest guest
Please I need advice on how to send something that came out of me to the lab. I think it was Jen who sent something to the lab recently to know what it was. How did you do it? Do I need a paper work from the doctor? My u/s earlier on showed something but the radiologists could not figure it out- it was not clear if it was retained placenta or fibroid, so they recommended further examination. I have an MRI scheduled for this evening, however, very early this morning something came out and it looks strange, it is the half the size of my middle finger. I am going for the mri though to make sure there is nothing inspite of the fact that I am so scared of that exam. I understand retained placenta looks like " Liver " but this something has some whitish stuff on the outside and dark red stuff inside( sorry to be graphic). I am just curious to know what it is. Any response will be appreciated. Gladys
Guest guest
Gladys, I'm sorry that you have this to deal with after all you've been through! It was me that had to send something to the lab. Dr. Palter could see it on the u/s, but didn't know if it was a polyp or retained placenta either. Since he had just made an opening in my cervix scarring he said I could pass it and would need to get it to my ob ASAP to send to the lab. This is because I live in Philly and Dr. Palter is in NY. When I started asking more questions because I was going away for the weekend he gave me a container with some fluid - unfortunately I don't know what it was. The key he said was keeping it refrigerated. So I passed it after working hours, refrigerated overnight and called my ob in the AM. Since it was Good Friday she had me pick up a prescription from her office and take it to the lab myself. It sounds like it sat around at the lab all weekend (probably unrefrigerated) because Dr. Palter wanted the results Monday and they hadn't even started analysis. My best description is that it looked like a piece of chewed juicy fruit. I know that is disgusting but.... It was beige and bumpy - kind of flat - about 1/2 " . Maybe since it was old rather than what you have being rather recent. I would try to get it somewhere tomorrow so you can find out exactly what it was. Sorry I'm always so long winded - I hope I was helpful! I hope to hear that your MRI went well. Jen Czap

Double-check the ingredients list. Slowly. Sorry about the reaction! Hugs to you and your DD. Esther in RI
Guest guest
Sheesh. I can find a thousand web pages about how to get high from Equate brand Tussin DM, but not a one that will list ingredients. Apparently, if you're into chemistry and drugs, this particular product is a real bargain. I'm totally naive about these things, so I was a little shocked at what my googling found for me. My drug days are long behind me. Esther in RI > > > > > The only new thing I can track down is a cough medicine > > that I have been giving her. Guest guest
Esther, Thank you for looking into the medication. I never thought of doing a google search. The inactive ingredients are: citric acid, FD & C red no. 40, flavor, glucose, glycerin, high fructose corn syrup, propylene glycol, saccharin sodium, sodium benzoate, water. Now looking at the list could it hide under flavor? That is the only ingredient that I saw that might be a problem. Unless I am not looking at the right names. It is amazing though what some people will use medications that was other than their intentions. Almost scary! Thanks again. Hopefully she will get over this reaction soon and will want to eat again! She is not wanting anything to eat so I will make her some chicken and rice soup and hopefully make her feel better. Gluten Free makes me feel good and it taste good too! Guest guest
Sorry to say " Flavor " can mean just about anything! It could be in the 'flavor'. Someone once said on this list that " citric acid " can also be a bugaboo as it's cultured from wheat or rye or barley or something. I was never quite clear on that one. I thought citric acid would just be squeezed from the rind or juice of some fruit, a happy by-product of some other manufacturing process. But I don't know. You could search the archives of this group for " citric acid " . I honestly don't know how any of those things are made, so I can't say for certain if all of them are safe. Same for the active ingredients (the guanfisin, etc.) I personally seem to have quite a bit of trouble with various medications, especially pills, MOST ESPECIALLY generic-label pills. But sometimes I don't know if that's a gluten issue or a colitis issue, as I have both. If it's for a cough, maybe stick with Vicks Vapo-rub and a room mist instead. Then again, I suddenly don't know if VV-R is safe, either! Especially for a DH person. Sigh. It's hard to live in this world, sometimes. But a vaporizer in the room is very likely to be GF. Laugh! Good luck! Wish I could have been more helpful. This week I was RXed Tamiflu for (you guessed it ...) flu. I was so doggone sick that I couldn't tell you if I had the presence of mind to look up its GF status before taking it or not. It bothered my colitis, for sure. But I think (not sure) it helped me get over the flu faster. (Amazing to me that something MICROSCOPIC can knock me flat on my behind. I was wishing for one of those chemically-induced comas they seem so fond of doing on House!) > > Esther, > > Thank you for looking into the medication. Guest guest
Well, I know Tamiflu is GF. As far as 's DD goes, though, it could have been the cough med, but it could have been the sausage too. Sausage is one of those things that I heard about as a potential hiding place for gluten when we first started this, but have yet to run into it as an ingredient in anything (sausage) that I've checked. Meds are so frustrating. Invariably you need the info on a weekend, too. To me, perscription meds are the worst - you're really sick and don't have many options and it can be nearly impossible to get an answer from the particular manufacturer that your particular pharmacy carries. GRRR... , I hope your DD feels better soon. Sue in Denver > > > > Esther, > > > > Thank you for looking into the medication. GRRR... > Here it always seems to be a HOLIDAY weekend!! First broken arm? Christmas eve. Type 1 Diabetes scare? Columbus day The flu that knocked out the whole family last time? Thanksgiving (1996) This flu? The day for one or more Presidents and/or their birthdays* Some stomach germ that required rehydration in the ER? MLK day Amazing. And besides, my pharmacist of choice WANTS to be helpful about GF issues... but, in reality, seems quite powerless to actually accomplish that. :-( Esther in RI and THANKS for the info about Tamiflu! I guess it only bugged my colitis. Although the package insert said " known side effects - bad stomach and gut stuff " , so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised in the least. I was too busy feeling head-to-toe miserable to worry about it much. How DOES one get one of those chemically-induced comas, any way? (Just kidding!) * Ever notice that the punctuation varies on the name of this holiday? My hubby was reading an article about how the official name of the holiday was never quite chosen. So, ever since, it's been open to interpretation as to precisely what the holiday is all about! Funny, eh?
