I knew Clapton had had his drug problems...but read in the program that he now runs a treatment center in Antigua. Wondering if he's now a stepper? He was wearing an upside down crucifix around his neck. Significance? Anyone know? Yes, a couple of years ago he put up a large portion of his guitar collection for auction at one of the big auction houses, with the proceeds going to this treatment center. There should still be news stories on the net about it. Certainly alot of coke had been snorted before the show by some of the crowd. And the song sure did seem to put a stamp of approval on that. Wonder how this fits into his XA " program? Hey hey hey, this place looks like a fancy resort! Lookit that pretty building, with the fine landscaping and pretty flowers, swimming pools and palm trees...and what's this? Hey, I can get exercise therapy, massage therapy, yoga....and hey! *Beach meetings*, out there on the warm sand, with cool breezes blowing through my hair and the beautiful sunny sky above me...and lookit this, it's by the ocean, and see this lovely veranda with comfortable chairs, and have a look-see at the dining room, looks like a fancy upscale restaurant, with a salad bar that overlooks the sea. Oh man, just look at this joint, with snacking and socializing areas...did someone say " snacking " ? I can sit there on my dead ass and stuff my face in this tropical paradise.... I wanna go there! Hey, I've never been in a rehab before, I just walked into AA on my own, and didn't have the fun of going to rehab...I wanna go and stroll on the beach and do yoga and stuff my face with those snacks and hang out in that fancy restaurant with that salad bar overlooking the sea, I want exercise and massage, and all I have to do to get this heavenly month-long vacation is be powerless over alcohol? Okay, , sure! I'm powerless! Lemme in! All I have to do is turn my will and my life over to God? You got it, Man, I want those comfy chairs on the veranda, I want the massage therapy, and all I have to do is make a searching and fearless moral inventory, ask God to remove my defects of character, make amends and carry the message. Sure! Lemme in, I'm coming. And how noble and virtuous this is...it sez here he chose Antigua because there are so many drug and alcohol problems there, broken families, abuse and violence, neglect and crime, such terrible things happening in such a beautiful place. And he's going to let Caribbean people in, by golly, alongside the fancy Americans and Europeans, good for him, and he's making his place really cheap, cheap, cheap, so that people can afford to come. Oh boy, a cheap tropical paradise. I'm on my way, it's cheap. I'll just go down to the bank and get out some money, how much do I need? How much for a month in paradise? Say what? $11,000????? Eleven thousand dollars is *cheap*??? If eleven thousand dollars is cheap, I'd like to know what is considered expensive!!! And if I can get a resort in Antigua for eleven thousand dollars, what do I get for even more money? Do I get heaven itself with God and Jesus and all the angels bringing me chocolate-covered jalapenos on a silver platter? Forget it. I can't spend $11,000 on fun in the sun. My own 28-day " treatment " was something like $10k, and that was around 1990 in one of the Parkside chain centers. I'm sure his center is still making money, of course. Expenses are not high in a place like that; the only real expenses are staff salaries. They only manage to get away with charging so much because they pretend to be (and often even call themselves) hospitals. If for any reason you ever want to be amused by somebody giving you the runaround, try to find out where all the money goes at one of these supposedly nonprofit centers. I tried to investigate this during my Parkside stay, and was left with the conclusion that if there are no profits then the people at the top must be making extremely high salaries. I did many hours of volunter work there and got a snootfull of indoctorination which sent me off on my past 12 step career. Just curious. If for any reason you ever want to be amused by somebody giving you the runaround, try to find out where all the money goes at one of these supposedly nonprofit centers. I tried to investigate this during my Parkside stay, and was left with the conclusion that if there are no profits then the people at the top must be making extremely high salaries. Ages ago I was in a public detox 10-day program in Indiana that charged a sliding scale based on income, up to a max that was something like $30/day. When it came down to what they delivered, aside from the lack of swimming pools and movie stars, I couldn't see any reason why the posher joints should be considered better. Mike. I dont know who Jack LaLanne is, but he's right. Tea made from coca leaves provides some cocaine that is a stimulant but is no more damaging than the caffeine in coffee and fizzy drinks. However, coca growing countries are not allowed to export it, robbing them of a source of income they could have from coca that would not harm anyone. Yeah no offense Mike, sure you meant none. How civil it was of you to ask me first if it was an OPEN meeting, when anyone could walk in and see him for themselves, before you got so sanctimonious. It was so long ago I cant remember if it was, but I know that they did have open meetings at that venue at that time. Ordinarily I would agree with you about privacy - but the steppers have taken the game beyond that. These folks participate in coerced attendance - a total breech of ppl's civil rights. While XA continues to do this, then they've lost it as far as keeping privacy is concerned with me - maybe they could keep it a little more private if they didnt have so many ppl in there who didnt want to be there. Also I believe we have a right to know Clapton's affiliations if he is involved with a rehab in some way - it means he isnt doing it on an impartial basis but has a commitment to a particular philosophy. Ironically, I never even noticed he was there until another AA pointed him out to me - I was invited to ogle him by another member. Also, in the case of celebirities the chances of them not being outed is pretty well zilch anyway - almost certainly Clapton's story was run in the press years ago. Also AA members themselves gossip about who is and who isnt, despite each group being supposedly autonomous. An AA friend passed on the gossip that Dubya had been seen in a meeting - even though I'm no longer AA. The " anonymous " but is suposed to be so that they dont go around promoting themselves or AA with it. Well I aint promoting Clapton or AA, so whats he got to hide. Guest guest Posted June 10, 2001 Report Share Posted June 10, 2001 I went to a God Forsaken treatment /detox facility in New jersey called Behaviora lSomething or other(Can't remember it,but it was in Summit ,New Jersey , and it was formerly famous for having people like pro athletes, etcetera as patients) and they charged my insurance company approximately $1500 per day, which totaled up to about Ten Grand for a seven day stay. The place and it's 'personnel should fucking get scurvy and have all their teeth fall out. Mike.
