Guest guest
, I am glad Eilish is home, and I hope the little one feels better soon. As for being the unwanted parents, lol, I think we have all been there when it comes to our kids, maybe one day the nurses will learn that mommie and daddies are right, lol. Glad she is home, take care. , mommy of 4, , 16 and begging to drive the family auto, (I dont need more grey hair here) Caleb, 6 wishing to be 3 again, and the worrier of the family, , 5 and the next famous artist, and , 19 months with CF and reflux and a beautiful smile and bright blue eyes, whose greatest passions are dancing and Elmo. Guest guest
Hi , I'm so glad to hear that Eilish is home today! I just know how hard it is to leave your children in the hospital even over night. I guess that's just the protective mother in me. I feel like a mother is a better nurse, more attentive and knows the patient better than complete strangers in a hospital taking care of lots of other people. Plus I think it helps the spirit sleeping in your very own bed in your own comfortable surroundings. When Shantell has had to go in for a couple of days, we take EVERYTHING with us, and I mean everything! Her pillows, her blankets, her soap, her music and every other item but the kitchen sink. She loves being home, and hates the hospital. Even the brand new state of the art Mayo Hospital that we go to (they even bring heated warm blankets). Do not feel bad about ticking off a couple of nurses, I've done more than my share of that over the past 19 years and who cares? It's not their baby, just a job! How did Eilish catch this other virus in the hospital? She didn't have to share a room with another CF patient did she? I always demand a private room, no matter if it's CF or any other problem...if they are sick, they are contagious. When Shantell was sick last month her fevers ran 104 and night sweats all night. I stayed up most of the night with cool wash clothes on her face so she could sleep, but I also gave her tylenol with codein just so she could sleep. The lack of sleep was really bringing her down fast. That made all the difference in her, by the next day she looked so much better. She's done with her PICC line, and she looks and feels great. I took her to California for spring break last weekend and she met up with two of her girlfriends. I hope Elish is feeling better soon so you can all relax some too. Keep us posted! , mom of Shantell 19wcf Eilish home Eilish finally got home today. They did a nose test thing with those tubes to detect anything, we'll receive the results in 24-48 hours. She still has a temp. but if it's a virus we can keep her more comfortable at home as the hsp. has stupid rules re;- paracetamol etc. blew his stack there last night and so were not the most popular patients with 2 nurses, but who cares. Guest guest
, Eilish still is unwell. I called the hsp. to check on her nasal thing and they said it showed nothing and her bloods showed nothing, but she's still sick. Her temp is still going up but not as much, probably only to 38.5 or so but her nose is running like a tap, her eyes are moist and heavy and she's miserable. They said she's probably got a virus but not one they test for, which is not very encouraging. I feel like shaking them as they dont seem concerned but I am as she's worse know than 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
--- At least you still have your sense of humor. I too am sick with a cold and its awful trying to care for children when your sick. If one more person askes me for apple juice I will scream. I am glad Eilish is home. Rosemary in New York with 3 kids with CF ages 10, 8 and 4! If I had a dog it would probably have CF! I have the luck of the Irish!
Guest guest
, Eilish had her own room, but I suppose if you walk around the hsp. like to the canteen or anything there's always a chance of getting something. Plus our season's are starting to change and it's hot one day cooler the next, so I know at work (in a clinic) alot of people have fluey symptoms. Her temps are doing okay now but her eyes and nose are still runny. She in such a awful mood I feel like throtteling her but have to refrain. She wont huff, blow or cough with physio, as Im typing this I can hear telling her to do it, but she wont. I feel like Im getting something to, my lips are sore and my nose is dripping, so maybe its a cold sort of thing. At least she's not greedy and sharing it around! Guest guest
Rosemary, I think Eilish is on the mend. Her nose is still runny, but no fever. And a more important side is she's back to her mood swings (god help us when she's a teenager). When she's naughty and mean to her brother then I know she's feeling better, but it makes us feel worse. Hope your cold gets better too. Guest guest
and Rosemary, so sorry you both are under the weather! It's not fair that WE can't get sick (no time, no one to take care of us and serve us apple juice)! I'm very lucky, I only get sick with sinus maybe once every other year. But every time there is a change in the weather for Shantell, she gets sick. Even with the slightest change her asthma kicks in. That's why I moved to Arizona, it basically stays about 65 to 90 degrees until she goes to Alaska for two months in the summertime. So, she stays with good weather year round. I just want to say that it is so nice talking to you all here on this list, I feel so much better. Even though Shantell is older than most of your children, we all have a lot in common. I still read the Cystic-L for information, but it seems like every time I put in my two bits I get flamed, even when I talked about my thyroid problem to someone who asked. I feel very niave compared to most on that list because even though Shantell is older, she really didn't start getting seriously ill until 16. That's not to say that I didn't have a lifetime of colds, bronchitis, flu and respiratory infections (because we did, her lung even collapsed at 6), but we really (and I mean really) worked on her therapy and diet. Everyone on this list really spends their energy caring for their children, and this is such a nice place to vent your frustrations to others who know what you are going through. Shantell actually had a date last night, although I had to PRY it out of her what his name was etc...She says he's just a friend, but they went to the movies together and he picked her up. She's 19 and never really had a boyfriend, because she's very, very picky (like her mother). I want so bad for her to have a " normal " life and it seems like I'm the one who is in a hurry for her to find all the happiness in the world. We practically grew up together because I had her when I was 19yr. My first born, , I had when I was 17yr. I'm very close to my kids because I really think that I was just a kid myself. The past couple of years have been hard because I met the man of my dreams and married him last year. Shantell has had a hard time accepting him because he interfered with our life together. I want her to find a boyfriend so she understands the difference, because I tell her I don't want to be old and alone! Hope your both feeling better soon, eat lots of chicken noodle soup! , mom to Shantell 19yr, and you want to talk about an attitude, ...just wait!LOL!
