Guest guest
I have played with them myself - adding things like vanilla, varying the milk, etc. and found them to be a little better with some tweaking, but still pretty dense compared to "normal" pancakes. The upside is that I can eat 2-3 of them and be really full as compared to a whole stack of regular pancakes! --E Arrowhead Mills productsHello to all you great cooks. I recently purchased arrowhead pancake mix and had our first real letdown for our family. Everyone in the family disliked the pancakes. I haven't seen many comments on this brand.. is that because it's really bad or just regional? Thoughts? I am not the best cook so I wasn't sure if it was cook error. Guest guest
The vote here is that it is really bad! My kids are not picky eaters at all and yet no one liked this. They ate the pancakes w/o complaint, but later let me know they didn't enjoy them much. I tried them too and my opinion is that they are course and dense and generally not enjoyable. We tried the muffin recipe from the package as well and were not pleased with the results. Mom of 10 > Hello to all you great cooks. I haven't tried the pancake mix. -patrick
Guest guest
Although I have not tried their pancake mix, I have tried some other things they make. I actually have tried other pancake mixes and haven't found one that I do like. Anyway, I use their pizza crust mix and have used their flour/baking mixture, both of which I think are fine. Good luck with the pancake thing. Rhiannon > > Hello to all you great cooks. I recently purchased arrowhead pancake > mix and had our first real letdown for our family. Guest guest
I just baked my first gf recipe today and used the Arrowhead Mills gf baking mix. They are the worst cookies I have ever eaten!!!!! Imagine dropping a damp cookie in the sand at the beach, then eating it anyway. I notive my bag of Red Bob baking mix doesn't use the rice flour. Hopefully that will be better! Fredricks wrote: The vote here is that it is really bad! My kids are not picky eaters at all and yet no one liked this. Guest guest
I think that sometimes it depends on what you use each different baking mix for. I have found that for some recipes the Sylvan Border Farms stuff works good and for others the Arrowhead Mills stuff works well. Rhiannon > The vote here is that it is really bad! Guest guest
I have figured out how to make the arrowhead mills pancakes work for us when the store is out of Bob's Red Mill pancake mix. I add a little sugar (about 1Tbs) and extra milk (1/4 c). I will make extras on a Sunday and keep the left overs for Mondays school lunches. If you are able to do peanuts they make really good PB & J sandwiches! My kids are also very picky. Good luck! -Schuyler > > The vote here is that it is really bad! Guest guest
I didn't like either pamela's for pancakes OR gluten free pantry's baking mix (the one with quinoa- I am thinking of the right one, right- man, those pancakes were SERIOUSLY flat. DH looked at me like, are you kidding???!). I DO like Bette Hagman's buttermilk pancake and waffle mix that you make yourself, or Fearn's brown rice mix for a " brown " flavored muffin, or Gluten free pantry cornbread. I also do a lot with substituting Bette Hagman's gluten free gourmet blend in regular recipes (even tollhouse cookies, call me crazy). But the happy things is, although different people's tastes differ, that everyone can find something they like (eventually). One thing- someone was saying they tried ENer-g untoasted- first, let me offer my condolences! and then, recommend either Ener-g White rice bread TOASTED or, even better Whole Foods Bakehouse garlic and sundried tomato bread TOASTED is Heavenly but expensive Or Kinninick TOASTED (although I haven't tried it personally I have heard great things that i would believe) Or best of all Yeast Bread made from any of Bette hagman's recipes Or Gluten Free Pantry homemade sandwich bread (pop in breadmaker and go) PS could anyone recommend recipes in the bread files for bread machine? I'd like to hear a rave review before deserting Bette. (I'd like a change of pace this weekend, i think )
Guest guest
Pancakes were a real problem in our house, especially with Arrowhead mills pancake mix, until I tried Kinniknick's pancake mix. Makes really good pancakes, better than my scratch made wheat ones from before GF and wonderful waffles. Shirley in San Diego P.S I order about 12 packages when I order pancake mix. Guest guest
Personally, I love Pamela's mix for pancakes, and I cannot tell the difference between Pamelas and any pancake I've had prior to GF. (prior to GF I rarely used white flour, and preferred whole grain anything). It makes excellent muffins too, and now my BF (non-GF) has started buying me the mix so I can make extra muffins for him when I make them for myself! I always use the honey instead of sugar, and add fruit as well. My Dad loves Pamelas pancakes also. He's the Celiac in the family that misses white bread anything.
