Cheyenne, (I love your name!!) Most of the time I don't deprive myself of

special things, like food from Mc's when the family is eating from there.

If Hubby wants a Big Mac, that's great... the kids get their Happy Meals and

I buy a Grilled Chicken hold the mayo, add BBQ sauce instead. It's only 6.5

points and delicious! Add a diet coke or sugar-free Iced Tea (I take Splenda

packets with me!!) and I am not deprived!!

At home, my husband loves his ice cream every night. That's okay. I have a

freezer shelf stocked FULL (and I mean full) of Smart Ones and Healthy Choice

Ice Cream Treats.... 2 points each. I get to eat something yummy and do NOT

feel deprived! And, if I've saved up the points, I can have two servings for 4

points!!

If the family is having spaghetti, so do I. But I measure out what I can

afford in points and I journal every single bite!

That's what I love love love about WW. I am never ever deprived of anything

I want. Never. There are lots of great people on this list who will share

their own ideas, I'm sure.... You'll find tons of support here! And I know

you'll get the knack of it!

hello,

It is hard when the rest of your family is still eating the way they want

to. But I just deal with it. I usually will eat something before I start

cooking them dinner, so I won't be tempted to nibble while I am cooking.

Sometimes I will do my treadmill time while they are eating dinner.

When we go out to eat, which is rarely, I will have a big salad before we

leave so I won't be so hungry when we get there. Then I just order a diet

soda a some small appetizer or something. It is hard though, I agree with

you! But I never expected my family to change their way of eating, my

husband has never had a weight problem. He is very supportive of me and

never complains about all the trips I take to the store to stock up on my

vegetables. And he never complains about the money or time I spend on the

meetings.

For me, it's all about portion control. If we go to 's, I have a small

burger and small fries. If we have pizza, I have a slice. Not half the

pizza! This has to work for me in my real life, with my real kids, within the

limitations for my real life.

Thanks about the compliment.

I think you're right. My problem is that I'm very afraid that if I

buy non-healthy things, I'll eat them! I have to just build up my

willpower and always know that I have to reach for the good things,

not DH's things!

Bette, great post ---- I do exactly the same (not depriving myself of

things I

want - but cutting down on the portion sizes or getting alternatives

that are

just as good but lesser in points).

I still do think, however, that a husband or wife could make an effort

to support

their spouse by, most of the time, sitting down with him/her to a

healthy home-cooked

meal - even if they don't have a weight problem. It won't hurt them,

they'll show

how much they care about their spouse, and they could chomp down on that

Big Mac when they take the kids to Mcs.

I must be one of the lucky ones because my hubby has mostly liked to

eat healthy anyway. He has never had a weight problem, and usually

stays around 178 and sometimes a little less, I used to get so mad at

him, he just stays the same. I know, I know, I shouldn't get mad but

you know what I mean. He always loved eating potato chips, his

favorite, but now a days he has to watch his cholesterol. And I

sometimes believe that men are so much better in doing what is right

for them, when they have too. When he found out he had to watch for

medical reasons, he just did it. Of course he's no angel and does

slip now and then, but " never " like I would. And I guess too, that

being there are only the 2 of us here helps also. We don't have to

stock shelves for anyone but us..So why do I have such a hard time

staying at a good weight. I have always gained, lost, gained, lost. I

could never stay where I wanted. But then again I have never done

WW's before either. Maybe this is the secret for me this time..lets

hope so..I don't want to do this again, it has got to be so hard on

one's body too, all this gaining and losing over and over. No wonder

I had closets full of clothes that just sat there waiting for my next

stage...~~~Kallie~

I don' t think I'm suggesting that we " rip [loved ones] away from the

things they love " . I think its'

all about compromise (pretty much like compromise makes for a successful

marriage in other

areas besides what we eat). Compromise works on both sides -for the WW

member, it means being able to go

to Mc's with the family every so often and have a " healthier "

choice then the Super-Size Big Mac

Value Meal . For the spouse without the weight issues, its' all about

being able to enjoy the healthy,

delicious home-cooked meal, if only as a means to show ones' love &

support for their husband or

wive's efforts. The spouse who's CONSTANTLY eating high-fat,

high-calorie meals across the table from

his or her partner is trying to eat to a more healthy lifestyle, is

IMHO, being rude, inconsiderate, and

non-supportive.

I do not have to deal with resentment and anger from relatives feeling that I am

ripping them away from the things they love.

Cheyenne,

I look at it this way - my body deserves better than McD's. I love

myself enough to put good stuff in, not garbage. If DH wants to eat

that, well that is his choice.

My DH has his goodies, especially a tub of something I will not even *describe*

from Trader Joe's. They are to DIE for. But he is tall and I am short, so I hide

while he puts them somewhere I will never find them. If I have even one, I am a

goner. But once in a while I buy myself a tub of those low pt TJ meringues. He

never brings out his litle tub of goodies while I am around...he doesn't dare

LOL!

He loves some of TJ's salad dressings, but a few are treacherous. When we get

home, I point them and if they are beyond me, I rubber band a paper around them

saying NO for me. He has become very good at wielding the points slide rule at

the store too, but he has his goodies and I stay away.

Ken is not on WW, but he cooks WW dinner for us each night (yeah-he cooks and I

hate to cook--the smoke alarms always go off). If he has a steak or pork chops

or something, I will have a Boca burger or beans or whatever. I had a big rib

eye one day, but it was NOT worth 18 points. It nearly wiped out my whole day. I

can easily live without red meat.

Yeah, I agree. He keeps saying he wants to do WW with me and yet

he'll still eat his usual ways. I just have to get him on the WW

boat and be serious about it!

Funny you say that about things not being worth the points. I had

one serving of tortellini, sauce, and garlic bread and my first

thought was that it SO wasn't worth all the points!
