I think you'd feel a whole lot better knowing what your problem/s is. I read an article a while back that said folks who've had health problems and not had them checked out will generally start to feel better just by making a doctor's appointment. For all sorts of stupid reasons, I didn't have a pap smear for 3 years. I was convinced that I'd have cervical cancer--finally had the test last July and I was fine. Guest guest
I don't know if this is a possibility for any of you, but now they have these free-standing CT centers where you can walk in and get a total body CT scan any time you want. They are expensive, but they do take credit cards and some also offer financing, on which you can make monthly payments. Maybe that would be a possibility? Take care, Becc
Guest guest
Tammidarlin: My own experience has taught me that, ultimately, I am responsible for my own health care. Doctors and other health care professionals are there to assist me in my goals of obtaining better/optimal health. You said that your current frustration stems from the fact that THEY have ruled out the small stuff and have watched your health rapidly decline, they know your family history and haven't even considered checking for other causes. You are the main observant of your condition. It really is okay to do some research on your own, taking into account your own family history, etc. It really is okay to bring up your own concerns and suspicions regarding your health status based on your research and family history. Don't take ALL your leads from your doctor, i.e. if you think it is a possibility that you have ovarian cancer, request that you be given the appropriate test. Don't wait for him/her to suggest it. If your current health care professional refuses your request, then find one who won't refuse. - If you believe that simple tests could rule out certain conditions that are causing you real concern - then request the tests, don't wait for the suggestion. And someone who will look at your case with fresh eyes. Perhaps this means looking for another doctor if the current one is not as proactive on your behalf as he/she should be. I know this isn't an original thought--- but any chance you could pay for the CT scan out of pocket. Should be about..... $300-600 ??? I don't know your financial circumstances, but is there anyone who could loan you the amount? Meantime, I suggest you to start keeping a scrupulous diary of all of your symptoms. Day by day, record your symptoms if and when they wax and wane. What are they? When are they worst for you? What, if anything seems to make them better? Oh-and be sure to make a notation of every diagnostic test you've had until now, and obtain photocopies of ALL your test results. All the best, Roma
Guest guest
and by all means find a doc who is independent of the other doc for a second opinion. gg ARomaWithAView@... wrote: > In a message dated 12/28/2002 9:14:59 AM Eastern Standard Time, > msdarlin67@... writes: > > > My current anger and frustration stem from the fact that they HAVE > > ruled out the small stuff, they've watched my health rapidly decline, > > they see the excessive bloating, they know my family history, and have > > yet to even considered checking for other causes.
