Guest guest
Are you mixing yours in a blender with some ice and water? Thats how I do mine and I love it. Nice and think..I have the same kind that you do. As far as more calories, yes there is less sugar but there is MORE PROTIEN which we NEED...Our body USES it to heal and build muscle etc. Hence the great # of calories...but many, if not most of us do not count the calories from the protien because we USE it right up. I am not able to explain it as well as michelle ( vitalady) but BOY can you tell the difference in your feeling, weightloss, cravings and health when you are doing the protien! Guest guest
, I think you did a GREAT job of explaining it. But you're right -- not many of us can 'splain it like Mom does/can. I've heard it put this way, too -- Sugar (especially refined, white sugar) provides energy but they are pretty much, " empty calories. " They burn up quickly and leave you feeling empty, soon afterwards. Protein calories are different. They're like house guests who come to stay but with a purpose! Protein grams/calories help to build muscle tissue and muscle tissue helps to burn .. You guessed it! FAT, fat and more fat. The more muscle your body owns, the more fat/calories you can burn. Women/men have posted about losing outrageous amounts of weight only to feel pretty flabby with not a lot of energy. This can happen for a couple of reasons -- Poor muscle tone or vitamin deficiencies. I would look at your sugar grams and your protein grams with the Carnation Instant Breakfast versus the ProBlend. How much protein does the CIB give you? It stinks that you no longer like that taste. Maybe someone (who does) might be interested in buying what you have left...? Just a thought. I tried a sample and wasn't crazy about it (post-op) but I recently ordered another one, just to make sure. My preference is the Pure Whey Stack, chocolate. It honestly doesn't take like something that's good for me, it's that good. Take care and God bless you! Love, Trace Open RNY -- 9/5/02 Dr. Schechner, Norfolk and Va. Thanks , I'll have to try it that way. That's the way I first tried it, come to think of it. This time I just shook it up. It just seemed like there was a strong vitamin-y taste! I'll probably get used to it with time, Sandy
Guest guest
What are you looking at???? 1 sc of PB55 =135 cal. 27.5g protein. Water has 0 cal. ????? CIB + milk has no ABSORBABLE protein & a ton of sugar. It's kinda like comparing a Snickers to a chicken breast. ???? m Boy, I guess it's true about tastes changing! I'm sitting here trying to drink my Pro Blend 55 Mocha Capuccino protein drink. I had tried a few different samples pre-op and liked this one. I'm LOATHING it right now. I can't imagine ever drinking my way through this 2 pound jar, because I can barely get through 12 ounces! I can't believe my tastes changed that much. Word to pre-ops: maybe you should try samples AFTER your operation before plunking down $20+ on a huge jar of protein powder! Anyone have any ideas on how to make this stuff more palatable? Also a bit bummed that the calorie count is so much higher than my Carnation Instant Breakfast, which I liked just fine but wanted to find something with fewer grams of sugar. This is weird because it has 2 fewer g's of sugar but 190 more calories! I'm not sure how that is even possible! Sandy
Guest guest
Sandy - Try adding some sweetner, or extra chocolate to it. Maybe peanut butter or a banana? I was making mine with two scoops because that's what the can says is one serving. Should I be using only one scoop? So, one scoop of PB55 has 130 calories and CIB has 70. Protein is definitely higher in the PB55, though CIB has more vitamins. Why isn't the protein in CIB absorbable? What makes a protein absorbable? I know we have problems absorbing certain vitamins and minerals but didn't think protein was one of them.

Guest guest
Add the calories form milk to the CIB. Now add up all the sugar g. And the sugar g in the PB55. See? The protein in CIB might or might not be absorbable. But why get all those EMPTY calories with that speck of protein when you can get a speck of calories with a WAD of protein? There are 8 elements that will bother us. We need the food to pass thru the duodenum to get full digestion & absorption. So, even if you're proximal, you will lose a portion of: protein iron calcium A, D, E zinc B12 Those are what need to be supplemented. m Re: Boy, I guess it's true about tastes changing! > What are you looking at???? 1 sc of PB55 =135 cal. 27.5g protein. Guest guest
I went to the local surgery support group meeting last night.. I wasnt able to attend the support group that I usually go to in Atlanta due to a late afternoon doctor appt.. Most of the post ops at the meeting were losing hair like crazy, pale, and complaining of lack of energy. They were told to eat 1 - 2 meals a day.. no more than 2 meals.. and space them 6 hours apart.. Make sure they were protein focused.. They are supposed to drink water if they feel hunger in between their two meals.. and walk.. two ( 1oz ) meals six hours apart, water, exercise .... etc.. I think they are all protein deficient.. The farthest out postie there was 8 months out.. I felt ancient. They said that they didnt do a distal RNY because the procedure was too malabsorptive for the patient to remain healthy. I strongly disagreed. They think that the patients who are proximal get enough protein from 2 oz of food a day, plus a chewable flintstone vitamin Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! It helps a lot to do it in the blender with ice, water, and maybe some banana than having it just shaken with water, for some reason. Considering I was on chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast for two weeks, maybe I just got too used to the taste of that to appreciate the Pro Blend! It's getting better. Guest guest
This group of doctors base their aftecare on another doctor/s aftercare program which leaves a lot to be desired. I am slowly educating those patients who are coming to me and asking questions.. I hope more and more will come to me and not follow the dietary instructions of these doctors. One of the doctors had the open RNY procedure done in California and is less than a year post op.. so still has a bit to learn about nutritional needs of gastric bypass patients..
