I am having a bad day, I think the ride home and the fact that I had major

surgery a week ago is finally hitting me. My WLS friend Janet (she isn't on

GBIC but is on OSSG-Protein) gave me the pep talk I needed because I hurt and

have over done it. I am going to really have to work on drinking my water,

but I am getting in 4 protein shakes a day. I mentioned yesterday my Mom was

here from Oregon. Last night my dad (who stayed home) had to be taken to the

emergency room with a possible stoke. They ran a whole bunch of tests and

ruled out a stroke but said he had a TIA, I'm not sure exactly what that is.

So, my brother flew all night and got to Eugene at 8:30 this morning to be

with my dad. My Mom left this morning to return home. So, I'm home alone

but thankfully have some good friends close by. B. in Folsom, if you

have a chance I would like to talk to or see you. I told Janet I wouldn't

leave my apartment today (it is upstairs). I was supposed to go to a meeting

tonight, I'm the President and felt I should attend, but Janet made me

promise not to leave my apartment and will come by some time between 5:00 and

5:30 to check and make sure I'm still here.

I do have some good news. I stopped by my primary care doctor's office to

make an appointment and got on the scales. Since surgery I have lost 13

pounds! Yea! I'm under 300 pounds!

, I hope you can get some needed rest. You need to heal yourself.

Regarding strokes and TIA. A TIA is like a mini stroke. They say they are

the warning signs of a real stroke coming. My DH had a TIA about 4 years

ago. Then an aphasia (speaking nonsense, another form of TIA) 2 weeks later.

This is your wake up call and you can do things to prevent a bad stroke

such as quitting smoking, lowering cholesterol, proper exercise, aspirin a

day and having regular check ups. DH has been fine since then. I hope your

Dad recovers quickly from his TIA and has no future problems. This was the

scare my DH needed to start taking better care of himself.

Thanks , one of my WLS friends living around the corner from me came

over to visit and reminded me to take care of myself. I have been drinking

more fluids and feeling OK tonight. I was supposed to go to a meeting

tonight but she told me not to go and made me promise I wouldn't then she

showed up here to make sure I didn't. What a friend indeed. Thanks Janet.

Dear in Sacramento,

Girlfriend, girlfriend ... You did just have major surgery. Make sure

and get the rest your body needs to heal, from the inside out, right...? I

read somewhere (who knows where :D) that our bodies " die " a little when we

under go surgery and general anesthesia. It takes a while to " get back on

feet again " so to speak and as well as you are doing, you don't want to over

do it and suffer a set back.

Write your self a prescription for just .. REST. Let your body heal

and continue drinking your protein and your water. Sip, sip, sip. You are

our star pupil/student and we don't want anything to happen to you.

::Soft hugs from Va.::

Love!

Janet, thank you for the information about the TIA. The thing that is a

little troubling with my Mom and us kids is that my dad has never smoked, he

has a cholesterol problem but medication takes care it, he doesn't use

butter/margarine on anything (he doesn't like it), he walks about 3 miles 5

days a week, square dances, sings in a chore, and has been taking half an

aspirin for years. Last night they told him to take a whole aspirin and gave

him a prescription for a blood thinner. I guess we will find out more when

he goes to the doctor tomorrow. It's hard being down here and not able to

travel to be with my family. When I talked to my dad tonight I said I guess

I am not superwoman and he said he is not superman. Like father, like

daughter.

Yea, Jeanne, reality hit me between the eyes -- hey, I'm superwoman, aren't

we all. When I talked to my dad last night I said hey I'm not superwoman and

he said yea, I not superman. Remember, it has taken me since March to get

below the 300 pounds because I started losing before the surgery. I'm so

proud that I have lost 82 pounds in 7 months, never to return!

Keep working on getting your water in. Good job on the protein. And congrats

on getting below 300. It took me almost a month before that happened, if I

remember correctly. And I was 3 pounds heavier than you to begin with. Oh

well. Hang in there, one day at a time, you know.
