Welcome .

My start weight was about what yours is (I was 214.5) I'm down now to just

hovering the 170 mark. This is a different way of eating (WOE) and it flies

in the face of that crap they call " conventional wisdom " . Eating healthy,

real, food is not bad for you. How could tons of sugar and high-carb

processed food be good for you? Low carb eating will help you lose weight,

reduce your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, stabilize your blood

sugar and probably save your pancreas from years of unnecessary wear and

tear.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Make your own, educated, decision.

We're glad to have you with us!

Yesterday i had my first comment about my weight.

I take part in a lot of things at my son's school and spend most of my time

there. I was in the Computer room with a group of mums and the Headteacher

came to see how we were getting on. She said to me " You are looking well

, How is the Diet going? " I told her i have lost 25lbs now and she

said " Well done that is really great, When did you start? " I couldn't

remember i said about mid-April and she said " That is excellent " .

When i got home, i looked in my Atkins Diary and i actually started on May

1st so i made sure i told everyone when i got back to school to fetch Bret.

It was. The best thing about it is that these people notice and care enough

to make a comment about it.

I shall miss this when Bret leaves this school because eveyone cares so much

Jen,

Congratulations on your compliments! It really tickled me to read your conversation with the teacher, and imagine it in a British accent. You have such civilized conversations!

Over here, that conversation would have gone something like this . . .

"Hey Jen! Lookin' great! How's the old diet goin?"

"Terriffic! I've already lost 125 pounds!"

"Cool! How long you been on that thing, anyways?"

Now, don't you agree that you Brits at least SOUND smarter than we Yanks?

Wow Darryl, congrats on your loss (only on a list like this can you say

something like that LOL). I agree I have a very hard time talking about this

WOE anywhere else but here. Some people just don't get it. Then I have a

few friends that know a little bit of everything or they know someone who

has done it (even though they haven't) and of course this is horrible,

horrible for you. So some people I don't even bother talking about with it.

Almost like that thing don't discuss religion or politics with certain people!

Dear Amy in CA,

I weighed 351.2 when I started my WLS journey on Sept. 5th and now I

weigh 328. That's 23 pounds lighter than I was 3 weeks ago and I am very

happy about that. I am most happy thinking about the future with my husband

and my four little girls.

I'm happy for you and your projected Nov. surgery date. You'll do

wonderfully, I'm sure of it! God bless you and take care.

Love!

Dear in MI,

Welcome home! I'm sorry to hear about your problems but I sure am

glad that you didn't have a blood clot and that they finally found out what

the matter was!

And you're absolutely right! In a few short weeks you'll be feeling

sooo much better. In fact, each day that you get a good night's rest and sip

your water and drink your protein, you'll feel better in the morning! Keep

up the good work. I'm praying for you.

Love,

Hi Steve:

Welcome to the group. You must be such a great son to be taking such an

interest in your Mom's health problem. I have two wonderful kids - one

daughter who is a Nurse and one son who is a Computer Systems Developer with

IBM. They are very concerned about my difficulties and although they may

have looked up things on the computer we never seem to discuss the

situation. I guess that is due to the fact that I have a hard time

controlling my emotions so we just tend to avoid the discussions.

Am glad for your Mom that you are willing to lurke or participate and

believe me this is the place for you to find more information than you will

get from the Drs.

Take care.
