Guest guest
what would be considered the 'appropriate' serving size of a steak. I am sure I am eating wayyyyyyyy to big portions of everything so I have just gone out and bought a digital scale and plan to weigh everything. Thanks KimP

Guest guest
Atkins recommends eating until satisfied, not stuffed. Eventually, as you move closer to goal...you will need to understand your body's signals for hunger and satisfaction. We are not on a 'see-food' diet, even if it is LC. A 'serving' of meat is about the size of the palm of your hand or a deck of cards. Relatively small by most people's standards. The typical restaurant steak is enough for 2 or even 3 servings [food pyramid style]. I almost never finish a restaurant steak [i could, but I don't] and save the balance for next day. This was a new habit for me, as I grew up with the starving children in other countries and learned how important it was to 'clean my plate' ;-) Now all I need to learn is how to not eat a whole can of tuna...it's not enough for 2 servings, and too much for 1. "The clean plate club" I am a part of that group as well....I heard about starving people, or I was grounded to the table until my plate was clean (I was known to fall asleep at the table).....my folks now wish they had never done that to me----it is something I have to deal with and get over---train our bodys that we don't have to eat everything on our plate-----eat until satisfied---not stuffed! Guest guest
Like I said, trace is good enough! Measurable ketosis level will vary throughout the day naturally; and then add diluted measurements from lots of water or exercise or when you last ate, and you can be anywhere on the color and lose just fine. If that's all it takes to be normal, you got it! I was not in ketosis, for reasons I won't mention, so that I don't tempt one of you over the edge. I just fill up my plate and that is what I usually eat LOL. And I have the big plates too. But I have recently learned to use smaller plates when I am having just a little bit of something at dinnertime. But, to answer your question, I would think that for me about 8-10 oz for a steak would be enough. Again, I don't weigh my portions, but that is what I would guess. My husband could down a 16 oz steak in one sitting, but that is just too much for me. Try it and see what you are comfortable eating. Guest guest
I try to figure out what my protein portions should be by my requirement that is based on my weight. I think that a 255lb woman such as myself should be having bigger portions of protein than say a 105 lb woman since given the 1/2 formula based on your weight, my 127.5 gms of protein vs the 52.5 are pretty darned hard to get without an increased portion. -----Original Message-----To: Atkins_Support_List >> what would be considered the 'appropriate' serving size of a steak. Guest guest
My understanding of this WOE is that it is qualitative rather than quantitative. Yes, we are just supposed to eat just until satisfied, full, whatever. I do eat bigger servings of meat/fish/poultry/pork, etc. on this WOE than I did on other diets, say weight watchers, that says 3 oz of meat is a serving. I usually eat a whole steak by myself, at least the steaks I get at the grocery store. (I cut off a lot, but not all, of the fat.) I can't finish the restaurant steaks.
