Guest guest
Hi , salbutamol is a bronchodialator, a drug that widens the small airways and hence reduces bronchoconstriction. It can cause side-effects like faster heart-beat, shaky hands and such. Recently a new drug named Xopenex has been developed without the side effects. 6% sodium chloride is pretty strong stuff. I have read somewhere, that high concentrated sodium chloride can damage the cillies in the airways. What's your doc's opinion about that? I am baffled how much Eilish knows already about CF. Fiona only knows that she has to take enzymes to prevent tummy aches. Torsten Krafft dad of Fiona almost 4wcf e-mail: torstenkrafft@... > I rand the hsp. last night about Eilish's cough. Her dr said to keep her on the augmentin duo for 10 days and call him back if there is no improvement. Also I had to drive in there to get some salbutamol liquid for the neb. and to mix it with sodium chloride 6%, which is the first time she's had this stuff. He said it will loosen up the mucus. She wasnt impressed having to go back on the mask as she's been of it since Nov. Almost as soon as she starts it she cough a few times. Would that be because of a smell or is that the way its supposed to be? Gee I hope it clears up, I dont think I could stand another admission so soon. This is when I wish we lived within 30km radius of the hsp. then we could have home IV's. Its a money issue with the hsp's. of course and they only have 1 physio who does the whole 30km radius. Oh yeah, the dr also said some kids get agitated with salbutamol and if this is the case then stop that and just give her the sodium chloride. Can anyone tell me what the difference or benefit would be of giving both or just the one? Sorry for all the questions, but this is totally unchartered stuff for us and I'd like to know what it does. > A little boy today asked me why Eilish takes tablets for food. So I told Eilish that wanted to know. She said to him " I have cystic fibrosis (she never says cf) and they help my poo's " . She then told him how that when she is a big girl her lungs are going in the bin and then she's getting new one's and then no more physio " . I thought that was cute. She's know's about new lungs because we know so many who have had them and they told her in nice terms. It funny the way kids are accepting of things when they have had it all their lives and know no different. > > > > >
