Guest guest
Hello Anje. Welcome to our wonderful group. Nice to have you with us. My dietician said that we need between 60 - 90 grams of protein a day. What with the malabsorption we have after surgery, it's just not possible to get this from food. We usually advise everyone to get some samples of different protein drinks at www.vitalady.com. This way you can try many kinds and find the one you like without having to buy big huge cans of the stuff that you could be stuck with if you don't like them. You weigh about what I did at the beginning. I'm sure you will have great success because you are so young, the surgery will be easier for you. The important thing for you to remember is that you must use your protein supplements and vitamins, and drink plenty of water for life. If you don't do these things, you will end up being sick as a post-op, and life will be the pits. Be a good girl, and follow the rules, and you'll have a shot at a much happier, healthier life. Take care. Jeanne in WI Age 39 Open RNY 05/21/2002 314/ 256./150-175 5' 8 " djgraves@...
Guest guest
Hey all! Thanks for the words of encouragement and the welcome. Wow! That's a lot of protein, I remember that my Dr. said that protein is important but he didn't say how important. But just by reading all this about protein I can see that it is crucial. Hey, a small price to pay for health, having to drink something everyday... no biggie. Along with the vitamins and water, no biggie, after all health is what I want. I have a question for you guys though. My dad has been lecturing me about " training " for the surgery so I come through it okay. I have read about this protein loading ritual? Would this be like say 2 weeks before surgery I kind of go on an adkins ritual till surgery? Also, is there anything else that I can do to prepare for the surgery aspect? I am meeting with my counselor next week for the first time! I am happy about that, but my pulmonlogist appt. got canceled... Grrrrrr I can't schedule my surgery till I see a pulmonlogist... Good lord it needs to hurry up. Hope everyone is doing well!! hugs, Anje
Guest guest
Anje - Start with the drinks now to build up the protein stores in your body. And exercise. And drink at least 64 oz. of water a day. These things will help you to recover more quickly from the surgery. Jeanne in WI Age 39 Open RNY 05/21/2002 314/ 256./150-175 5' 8 " djgraves@... Guest guest
Training? You mean trying to eat like a postie NOW? You can take some protein supps, a multi vite, some vit C, check your iron level and get that leveled out (if a problem), but training? Re: Hey! Another new person! Hey all! But hey, that is my dad for you, he is just worried about it. My family is supportive but honestly they would rather I not do this.. but I'm going to anyway But his intentions were good
Guest guest
awwwww, that's nice. My dad still insists that " they " should just " push away from the table " , but then on the other hand, he knows exactly how I got where I am (healthwise) AND he always introduces me as The Vitalady to his friends. LOL! Like they know,. Or care. But I think it's cute. He's 85. Re: Hey! Another new person! >>>Training? You mean trying to eat like a postie NOW?
