Marisa,

This is a question I asked a fibroid specialist today. Her view was that

generally fibroids do shrink after menopause--but for some people they don't.

She says that you really can't predict. She suggested that taking Lupron for

a month might be a way to get some idea if your fibroids/uterus would shrink

at menopause.

Hope this helps.

Hi Marisa, Do you know of any other doctors to consult? I appreciate that it;s

time-consuming seeking other opinions, and i don't understand the implications

of your particular fibroids, but i have a hard time believing there isnt a gyn

somewhere in your area of the country who may have a different recommendation

besides hyst for you. where are you? members of the group may know of someone

else near you to consult.

Good Luck, Robin

I am in Wisconsin - right at the Illinois border. Anywhere between Milwaukee

and Chicago would work for me. This is driving me nuts.. I am not certain what

keyword I need to look up to find the type of dr. that would work in a natural

way with me. Thank you so much for getting back to me:).

Marisa -

I had 2 5 cm fibroids and was told basically the same set of garbage

as you were by 3 out of 4 gynecologists. I finally made an appointment

with an IR and had a UAE almost two months ago. I'm very glad I did

some research before agreeing to a hysterectomy and/or Lupron. (I'm 46.)

Marisa -

I spent five years " watching and waiting " and it was fine till my

fibroid grew to 18 cm and started degenerating. And still, I've

found 2 doctors who didn't recommend hysterectomy. Of course,

several other did, but I kept going till I found a better

alternative, which for me means a myomectomy in 2 weeks. So, don't

let them scare you into hysterectomy. You might be lucky enough to

make it to menopause when it should shrink.

Marisa - Dr. Arnold Advincula is the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery

& Chronic Pelvic Pain Program at the University of Michigan Health System.

He performed a laporascopic myomectomy on me in August using the DaVinci

robotic method. I have nothing but great things to say about this doctor,

this hospital and this surgery. I had a 13cm fibroid in my uterus.

,

I am from southeast Michigan and had a myomectomy in February. I

ended up having surgery out of state (it's a long story, but the

doctor was the only one that I felt comfortable with doing my

surgery). Now, months after the surgery, I am hearing so many good

things about the University of Michigan.

At this time I am fibroid free, but I am looking for a gyn. Is Dr.

Advincula a gyn or a general surgeon? How did you find out about

Dr. Advincula and the robotic myomectomy? Did another doctor refer

you to him?

Also, can I ask how many incisions you have and how big are they?

Was your fibroid subserosal, intramural, or submucosal? Do you know

how long your surgery took?
