Guest guest
Hello, all- I believe my doctor is an excellent physician, and I am grateful to have him. I can't say the same about all the doctors in this town. However, I don't think he's that familiar with fibro (well, neither am I, having been diagnosed recently) and I would like to hear *positive* techniques people have found to work with their physicians for the best results possible. Just for some background re me and my Dr.: I went to him last Nov just desperate for help. At that time the headaches were killing me, but I went ahead and told him about the pain all over and exhaustion and so on. He sent me to a rheumatologist who dx'd FM. Good so far, FM really fits. I think my Dr. originally suspected I was one or more of the following: psycho, looking for drugs, hypochondriac, or all of the above. This makes it difficult, since also I have some sort of strange shame about being sick, about having a vague disease (a broken leg or something, no prob. Shows up on x-rays, you know?) So I don't come off well. In real life I am a social worker and an advocate for others; have no problem speaking what's on my mind. When it comes to me, I feel guilty for bothering people, and it shows. That's why, for instance, an echocardiogram the rheumatologist ordered on 12/11 took over 3 months to get (done today, results in 2 weeks.) So, all of this psychological stuff would be interesting to work with, given time, but I don't feel like I have the luxury. I need to start *right now* with an appropriate level of assertiveness and self-esteem. I have health concerns that aren't being addressed. Any thoughts? TIA, Laurel
