Woo Hoo! If you just saw a quick flash of light, that was the

reflection off my teeth because I'm a wide smiling fool! Today was

my last day of work as a pre-op. I was originally planning to work

on Monday because my surgery is Tuesday, but because I have to take

the Milk of Mag on Monday morning, and because the bathroom at work

is 1/10 of a mile (round trip), I am staying home on Monday morning.

My plan is to drive to Richmond on Monday afternoon to get the last

of my lab work done at Richmond and to confirm what time my surgery

is scheduled for, check into the Holiday Inn, and relax until the

next day.

I was touched by the show of support from my immediate group of co-

workers. Since I've started my bariatric surgery pre-op journey, as

I lost the pre-op weight, coworkers came crawling out from all

corners, almost compelled to comment about my weight loss - asking

how I did it and making jokes about how my clothes are practically

falling off me. But in my closer circle of coworkers, some have

joined Weight Watchers, several are doing Atkins, one had a personal

trainer customize a food plan for her, and just today, one of my

close friends announced that she signed up for Craig. For the

first time since I've worked there, she brought her Craig lunch

(instead of getting her tacos from Jimboy's or Chipotle and she

joined our group of salad eaters at my last pre-op lunch with my work

friends. She told me, ette, this is all your fault, you know.

You have inspired us to do something about our own weight and eating

habits. I was deeply moved.

I'm planning to go to go the support group meeting in Sacramento at

Point West - my last meeting as a pre-op. I usually go to the post-

op and the pre-op so if you see me with my red backpack and oxygen

tubing, stop by and say hi!

Tips for getting the pre-op weight off? So many, but I'll target

five things. The first is to keep plugged into an group of support

people, like this one. Two, stay true to the 1200 calorie food plan

because it prepares you for post-of life. Three, keep a food

journal. I kept my electronically in fitday.com. I was doing great

from August through late November, but when I fell off the food

journaling, my weight loss slowed. Four, keep moving - and keep

challenging yourself to develop an exercise regimen, whatever works

for you. Five, develop and refine your 64 oz/day water habit.

By the way, when I weighed in at support group, I finally broke the

300 lb. mark. I weighed in at 298.4!!!! I have been hovering above

300 at 302, 301 for weeks. I am elated! All things are truly

possible!

Oh yeah! anyone else go the Sacramento post-op support group meeting

at Point West today? Gitty, from the SSF program, talked for a bit

about what our goal weight should be. She emphasized not to get

stuck on numbers, but look at a range based on achieving a BMI of

lower than 35. Of course, everyone's goal range will be different

depending on their height, but she said there is prevalent thinking

that the BMI charts are not totally definitive for people who used to

be obese. So, for the gentleman who asked the question at the

meeting who was 6'1 and weighed in the low 200s (and had already lost

over 135 lbs), his plan was to shoot for a goal of 160 lbs., but

Gitty said that because he was formally obese, you have to take in

that our bones are heavier having to bare our weight for all these

years, and our muscle mass weighs more (??), so his goal range should

be between 180 - 220, for example. It was quite a revelation to this

man, because to him, he was still 40 lbs to goal, but to us, he

didn't look like an overweight person any longer. Very encouraging

and promising!!!
