Guest guest
When you add ALA -- how do you get it at a really low dose? I saw on links or whatever that Kirkman has 25 mg. But, even that is going to be hard to spllit into VERY low doses. I wa able to split DMSA capsules in half. But I dont know how to do it much less than that. With the powder into all those pieces. Also, is there some way you can dump the capsule in water and mix it up and then split the water into amounts, or is that not okay? (I didn't know if it mixed well or not, and tried to read the stuff on that link where it is like giving doses to kids and am so confused by what's okay and not! --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
I get DMSA via prescription because it's super cheap that way. It's called Chemet and only comes in 100mg. doses, so I have to break it down myself. Here's the best method I've found so far. You need a pretty steady hand to accomplish the dividing. I use my Cap-m-quik encapsulator. They are pretty cheap online. You could easily get the same results by figuring out which size drill bit corresponds to the size capsule you are using and drilling a few 1/4 " or so deep holes into some plastic or wood. Anything that would hold the caps upright will work well. I set the open caps in the slots, four at a time, lined up in a row. Then open a 100mg. cap and slowly turn it back and forth until the pellets slowly empty out. Chemet comes in small pellet form, but powder should work just as well. I can then look at the caps at eye level and make adjustments if I've poured too much into one or two of the caps. It takes a good hour or two to make up the caps, but well worth the effort of getting them precisely divided up. > >

Guest guest
> > When you add ALA -- > > how do you get it at a really low dose? I assume you are asking about low doses of ALA not DMSA. Well my advice (which I hope is more useful what I gave you about strapping on the invisible clock) is to look in Moria's files for her " How to buy DMSA " section. Under compounding pharmacies is one called Village Green/The Apothecary. They will make you ALA capsules in any dose that you like. We've gotten as low as 5mg with no problem. I think they might actually be a cheaper place to get even standard doses of ALA (like 25 mg) than places like Kirkman. (Not absolutely sure though.) W. TK--- Cheap because insurance pays for it ? otherwise it is usually cheaper if you get it on your own. It's > called Chemet and only comes in 100mg. doses, so I have to break it down > myself. Guest guest
I had to put the DMSA in water at first. It doesn't last very long in water, and i forget how long that actually is. Maybe TK or somebody else remembers. I only had to do the water method for a couple of rounds. In the beginning, I put one 100mg into 24 ounces and took a little sip for each dose. (even that was too much for the very first few doses, but then my attacks quite quickly started diminishing) Perhaps you could probably take half the pill and put it into some water and then do the other half, so it doesn't expire. The other thing that seems to work well for me, is that I measure some DMSA into the SHORTER end of the capsule. I can easily make it just about 1/2 full and then that's my dose. How much precisely it is, I don't know, but I am getting a pretty equal dose each time. I remember Andy once mentioning that it is much more important to get your timing correct on taking the chelators, than it is having the actual doses being real precise, so I thinkthat measuring into the end of a cap work quite well. ~Inga > When you add ALA -- > > how do you get it at a really low dose?
