Guest guest
Hi Janet! Welcome to the group! It certainly sounds like you've been feeling the effects of your excess weight recently! :-( It also sounds like your PCP doesn't approve of the surgery . . . would he still refer you though? It will be a much easier, faster process if he will cooperate even if he doesn't quite approve of it. You will also need to set up appointments with a nutritionist and psychiatrist (I don't know if you need your PCPs approval for those appointments or not). I'm nearly 8 months post-op and I rarely have diarrhea. I certainly have it a lot less frequently than when I was pre-op! I know some people have it and others don't - I don't really know what the difference is. Good luck with your journey & please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with! My primary said last year that I qualify, but he strongly recommended against it. Problem is that I am a tennis player, and the weight is bringing about injuries as I get older. I'm 44, and have suffered from a torn achilles, back problems, and planter's fasciitis.....all of this in only the past month! What's the best way to get started down this path? And better still, what's the FASTEST way? lol....I know it's Kaiser so fast is relative at best What are the biggest problems you face after surgery? What has held me back in the past is this...I know 4 people who have had a gastric bypass. 3 of the 4 suffer greatly from diarrhea, all of them are +2 years post op. The 4th I won't discuss as the results were deadly. Does Kaiser offer laparoscopy, and what do I need to do to qualify for this? I figure lap would be best for me as it gets me back on my feet the quickest. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! It was Lap. I have to say that i could have asked for anything better. I had some Nausea the day of surgery and i think that was from the Morphine but the Dr. changed me to Demerol the next day and i felt much better. The nurses were great and my roommate had the surgery the same day and so we helped each other. The exercise class was nice break in the day although i didn't get there get until the 2nd post op day due to the nausea. The big reccomendation i can make for all of you is make sure you are doing your pro complex before and walking and get up and walk push yourself after surgery i think that is what helped me the most. The other thing that helped me is having someone there. If you can it is a must. It is so very hard to do this on your own once you are in the hotel. I know it is expensive but if you can have some one come down there to support you and help you after surgery you will do better Thank you so much for this ongoing support group here. If there is anybody in the Walnut Creek, Concord, ez area that has a small support group or would like to start one i would be interested.
