Do they have a patient info seminar? require 10% weight loss? stay in LA for a week after surgery? etc.etc. These questions come from what I know about Pac Bar--I have come to believe them to be one of the top groups in the country, so anything less will be disconcerting--even frightening. Any/all info will be most welcome.Thanks in advance.Pat I hope not because Pac Bar is the best they do more than any practice per year than there is, The surgeons have collectively more experience and their complication rate is much lower. Their death rate is 1 in 2000..I do not know what UCLA's is but I do know several people who had complications from UCLA,course I had complications too but mine was not surgical errormnot to imply that UCLA's comps and deaths are surgeon error. Another good reason for Pac Bar is that they transect the pouch instead of just stapling the sides,transecting is important as it eliminates any chance of stapleline disruption. If this is true will this mean that us Pac Bar babies will not be able to go for our yearly check-ups and have to go to UCLA who do not even support protein shakes... This we were told a couple of months ago. Kaiser is making the surgery more available in this area by opening up Bariatric programs here locally. Here they are performing surgery in SSF, Richmond and soon in Fremont. I am not sure about contracting out to UCLA. I know we have had some people that belong to the group had their surgery at UCLA but that is all. Where ever you have your surgery I am sure they will be very good. Hey Tedd are you the one being sent to Fremont? I also know DeAnne had surgery (gall bladder) with the Bariatric doctor there in Fremont and she thinks he is great but still check out the references.
