Guest guest
There is a test for just microbiology, so if you're not interested in the other stuff the CDSA covers, it is probably a lot cheaper. I noticed different drugs/herbs on my 1996 version than on my 1998 test results, so call them (they have an 800 #) if you want to know about a particular drug vis-a-vis Klebsiella to make sure it's one they test for. And, called them and found that you get different info back if you do the test on your own, so double-check that if you are after the bacterial sensitivity panel. Guest guest
Dear Bev, My son's doctor knew we had no insurance, so she allowed us to pay Great Smokies direct instead of going through her office and incurring additional bookkeeping expenses. She ordered the test kit and had it sent to our home. I called their toll free number to find out the cost and enclosed a check with the packet we sent back via Fed Ex (the shipping costs were included in the price.) I believe there was a discount for doing payment in advance like that instead of being billed. The cost for a whole series of tests was only $132.00. Then they rans sensitivity cultures on the two bacterial infections they found and there was and additional $20 charge for those tests. I received a billed for that. They can't predict those costs until they see what they find, but we included permission to have the sensitivity cultures done if anything turned up. The report they sent back was extensive. It was sent to his doctor, and at the end of the consultation, the doctor gave him the report to take home. This was invaluable, because we could then take that report to an MD and get the prescriptions he needed without having to deal with pesty rheumatologists. $450 sounds pretty expensive. Great Smokies has a website and a toll free number. I'd ask the doctor to give you a list of the tests he plans to run, and then call them to check prices. They don't check for mycoplasma. I don't think they do any blood tests. Hope this is helpful, Bryarwoode@... wrote: I just received an answer from my Homeopath that the Great Smokies stool test costs $430 - $450.00. I was interested in getting tested for yeast and fungus seeing how I've had such a terrible problem with fungus earlier this year. He suggested I get tested for the two different fungus I had, one on my toenail and the other in my ear. I will have to find the names of them from my gp. I just phoned and he has my charts at home and isn't in so I still can't find out about the thyroid and hormone testing I had done a week ago. I'll have to phone tomorrow. Does anyone know what tests Great Smokies do for this much money? Do they test for mycoplasma also. He said it is a very thorough test for this much money. I am having a terrible time with swollen and cracked hands and stiff neck with pressure in my head and sometimes in my ears. I have also lost so much muscle strength in my hands I can't pick up my cat with one hand anymore. Any advice would be very much appreciated. My new RD changed my diagnosis from RA/PA to MCTD on Oct. 2 and I had been on Minocycline 100mg x 7 up til March on this year, starting in Oct. 1998. Thanks a bunch.
