Guest guest
Hello, I'm Joan, my husband Dave is entering this message. I have just joined your support group today. Here is my situation. I have had diffuse scleroderma for 11 months. In Feb, I was started on Depen 150 mg every day for the 1st 6 weeks. I have worked up to 500 mg daily and have been on that dosage for 6 weeks. Now I am seeing signs of skin relaxing and have my energy back. This week my rheumatologist started me on Minocin, 50 mg twice a day, every day. Everything I have read says to use Minocin Mon - Wed - Fri. I'm looking forward to your comments. Thanks, Joan Wood
Guest guest
I have to jump on this one. I too was on Cuprimine....d-penicillimine for 18 months but I was at 250mg a day and my dr. wanted to up it to 500mg a day since it was not really doing much in the first 6 months. I did for a short time then went back to the 250. The way it went for me was I had a slow down of the fibrosis and a reduction in pain but nothing like a have now. At the two year mark I went full tilt into the skin hardening again with lung involvement. That is when I panicked and jumped of the fence to get involved in the AP, antibiotic protocol. I wish I had a doctor that would have started me on the minocycline earlier but that's all water under the bridge. Personally, I would alter the drug intake to match the protocol and tell your doctor why. Start at 50mg MWF and move up to 200mg MWF at a pace you can handle. However, I would strongly recommend trying to manage the clindamycin IV. It makes a huge difference for me. Anyway, doctors do not prescribe drugs in a pulsed method so they don't understand why. You can explain it to them and they should agree given the theory. Congrats on finding us. ps: can you write me personally and give me more details of your drug intake and your condition. I imagine you are on the piles of meds that I was on and no longer take. Guest guest
Dear Joan, For what it's worth, since I'm fairly new....I do the M, W, F, routine. Traditional doctors, mine included, suggest the 7 days a week, but Dr. Brown, as you know, suggested the alternate route of administration. My feeling was, (And doc is letting me do my own thing) " less of any medicine is better " and since M<W< F is supposed to work really well, why take more medicine than I need. And (knock wood) I have done well so far. So that's my approach. I guess if it didn't work, I might try more, or I might investigate other problems that kept it from working. I know everyone here has opinions. I hope we help you, and good luck.
