Guest guest
Hi Debbie G and everyone, As ya'll already know, I've had Thyroid problems ever since I was a kid. I noticed the mass growing in my neck when I was in 5th grade, I believe. I was examined by a couple of small town quacks that I personally wouldn't take my cat to. (Thanks Dad, he was always trying to pinch pennies) One of these doctors said I had a gland infection and put me on antibiotics. The other said he thought it was some sort of infection, maybe even tonsils, put me on Pencillin and that was it. I was in with my mom at her GYN, of all places and he looked at my neck as a favor to her. He said that he thought it was my Thyroid and I probably had a Goiter. He wanted me to see a specialist, but Dad wouldn't hear of it. About 7 years later, I was a Senior in high school and had a 'flu' that wouldn't go away. I had a fever that ran between 102-104, swollen glands, could barely talk, no appetite, etc.. It would get better, but never completely go away, then come right back in a couple of months. I was coughing up blood for 2 or 3 months, hiding it from my parents for 2 reasons: I was terrified of the doctor and I knew Dad was going to have a fit about the money. Finally, one of my teacher's saw me coughing up the blood and talked to me after class. She told me if I didn't tell my parents, she was going to. I told Mom that evening and she told Dad. Just as expected, he yelled about the money and pouted at Mom and I for about a week. He finally felt guilty enough to have my uncle take me to ER and they began running tests on me. Dad ranted and raved because i had to go back and forth to the hospital from Sept-Nov, 1979 for test after test. They decided to just admit me because we live 45 minutes from the hospital and they were doing tests several times a week. 2 weeks after i was admitted, after many scans, x-rays and blood tests, they did a Needle Biopsy on the mass and diagnosed me with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. The Thyroid was removed and my Parathyroids moved to my left arm. (Weird, huh?) Scans showed that the Cancer had already spread to both my lungs, so I had my first Radioactive Iodine treatment in Feb, 1980. I have had several recurences warranting a treatment each time, the most recent being June of this year. My Fibromyalgia symptoms started around 1984 or so, tho I wasn't diagnosed until 1997. My doctors have never made a connection with my Thyroid problems and FMS, but they also act like FMS is no big deal. So I don't put alot of stock in them. I'm off to the Arthritis Clinic for the 2nd time in just about 4 hours and I haven't been to bed yet, so I guess I better try to catch a few winks. I'm sorry this ended up so long, I just get started and don't know when to stop lol. Take care everyone! Guest guest
I have a normal thyroid. : ) Thyroid Problems I've noticed that quite a few people on this list have thyroid problems and I was just wondering what the number of people on this list really affected by that was, so what's the number???? How many of you have thyroid problems? And is this something associated with Fibro???
Guest guest
I don't know if it's associated, but I am hypothyroid and have been for several years, yet my thyroid levels have not stabilised. And yes, I think it contributes to my symptoms. Petra (mailto:Petra@...) Guest guest
Hypothyroid here x 4 years and so far not under control with meds. My doc told me and from what I have read it does go hand and hand with fibro. How many of you have thyroid problems? And is this something associated with Fibro??? I am not sure how long I have had thyroid problems. It was first found in 1998 and I was Hyper-thyroid and not hypo. It goes up and down constantly. I have 2 nodules on the thyroid and maybe that is what is causing it, I don't know. I do know my weight goes up and down with it and I haven't changed my eating habits. I'll lose weight like crazy for a month or two then gain it back again. I have had all kinds of tests, scan and uptake etc. But it doesn't seem to worry the doctor so I haven't gotten really concerned with it either. My fatigue and pain etc. started back in 1994 but not officially diagnosed with CFS, Fibro and NMH just this last couple of months. I very rarely used to go to the doctor. Thought I had to be tough like my Grandfather. Took the pain and slid through all illnesses. But since 1996, I have been seen by 11 different doctors. Bummer. No more workaholic. http://members.tripod.com/~Shue/menu2.html

Guest guest
as i said before i also have hypothyroidism and it has not stabilized in the last 6 yrs. i take 0.175mg of synthroid daily--so i don't know if there is a connection between this and fms or cfs or not.
