Guest guest
Hi Danny, I can't help out, and I've asked the same question myself . I was told I needed NO referral, and in fact was given an appt for orientation. A booklet and questionaire has already been sent to me. It DOES say you must have documented efforts at weight loss in the booklet. So I don't know, and no one ever responds when I ask questions. Best of luck to you, and please let me know if you get any answers! Janet Weight management Did I miss something here? This is not the first time I've seen somethingmentioned here about a 6 month supervised program. I was never required totake any weight management or supervised weight lose class before myapproval, is this something that I will have to do after I meet with mysurgeon or is it behind me since I've already been approved?"Inside the booklet, one of the things it states is that you must "have madea serious effort to change your eating habits and lifestyle. This is shownby six months in a supervised and approved weight loss program that has beentracked by a physician or nutritionist. Special circumstances may berecommended by a physician and approved by the regional bariatric medicaldirector or designee."Danny Monge
Guest guest
Don't rule anything out! Be prepared for whatever it takes. My PCP had me do 6 months of WW and a 5 week nutrition/weight management class before she'd even send in my paperwork for approval. However, she told me to do this as soon as she recommended that I research the surgery to see if it was something I'd be interested in. So, it really didn't end up affecting my approval time. Good luck! Hugs, Jen Danny Monge wrote: Did I miss something here? This is not the first time I've seen something mentioned here about a 6 month supervised program. Guest guest
The thing is that I've already been approved, so is this something I have to worry about or is this something that is only done prior to approval? Guest guest
Well, it seems to depend on the surgeon sometimes. My PCP had me do this stuff before I was approved. But then I've heard of people being approved and referred to PB, and then the PB surgeon requires that they do 3 months of a supervised exercise class or something similar before they will schedule for surgery. It's just always good to be prepared for anything. If you've already gotten your date for surgery, you've probably got nothing to worry about, but they always seem to be able to yank our chain in any case! :-\ Hugs, Jen Danny Monge wrote: The thing is that I've already been approved, so is this something I have to worry about or is this something that is only done prior to approval? Guest guest
Hi Danny, Which Kaiser Bariatric program are you in? Each one seems to be a bit different. Guest guest
I made a list of every diet I could think of that I had tried. I went back about 10 years, although I think I read 5 years was all that was needed. I only had to sit in on one nutrician class of about 50 people. It was kind of a joke really. That is all that has been required of me before I was approved. CarolThe Nut wrote: Hi Danny, I can't help out, and I've asked the same question myself . Guest guest
Danny, If you have been approved, then you were not required to take a weight management class. Different Kaiser facilities have different processes before they will refer patients to SSF for approval. Since you have already been approved, you will just follow the steps for your specific facility where you will have surgery (SSF or Richmond). Congratulations on your approval! Guest guest
When I made my diet list, I couldn't remember ALL the flippin diets I've tried... so I searched and found a web page that reminded me of diets I had TOTALLY forgotten about... like - and the Cambridge diet. Here is the website to help spur your memory. I am NOT endorsing the diets listed OR the website. It just really helped me make this massive list of diets that I had plum forgot about. I highlighted the webpage and the copy/paste it into NOTEPAD for easier maneuvering with the list. If you use Notepad, you will not get the hyperlinks - save it in Notepad and then exit and open it in Word. If you paste it directly in Word, you get the hyperlinks and will likely constantly launch the websites. Irritating to say the least! http://www.chasefreedom.com/ Be blessed!
