DMSA and gut issues.

Has anybody here developed a gut problem/issues from DMSA? The last

round of it has left me very sick, but also I now have a permanent

sensation of my lower abdomen being clenched or in a type of spasm or

knot and I am concerned because it has not abated.

If anybody has had this or some other problem related to it, did it

improve after stopping? and if so, how long did it take? I took the 50

mg dosage weeks ago. I'm now attempting to help myself by taking

minimal dosage (12 mg) in the hopes I might be able to improve the

reaction.

DMSA can cause increased yeast problems. But what you're describing

could be other things as well. Do you have other symptoms, perhaps

constipation or other intestinal symptoms, or urinary or hormonal

symptoms?

Yes, I do have other symptoms. But the DMSA round last time has

caused this clenching sensation in the gut. It did it AGES back and

it was not able to be resolved until I went off sugar/yeast/gluten.

This time around, I am on the same diet (no sugar/yeast/gluten) and

this clenching has happened again and is not going.

I often get pain/urgency with the urine problems. With the bowel,

sometimes constipation, but changes to diarroeah.

As for hormone problems, I'd say I probably do with all this

toxicitiy yes.

If it happened before when you were on yeast/sugar/gluten, then

I wonder if some source of one of those is still in, or has crept

back in to your diet. I also exclude those items from my diet

and I kept finding them " hidden " in foods for quite a while after

I started the diet. Are you eating any packaged, processed, or

refined products - you really should exclude them from your diet

as they almost always have some amount of one of the problem

foods. You should also be avoiding vinegar, tempeh, mushrooms,

anything fermented, and high-sugar veggies like beets, carrots,

potatoes.

What about dairy? Do you have problems with it? It is another

item that is hidden in many products. If you are not excluding

it, you might try doing so for a while and see if that helps.

Think about these dietary issues first. Since you had the same

problem related to diet before, that seems a good starting point.

If the clenching feeling is caused by yeast/bacteria (stirred

up by eating one of these problem foods), then taking more

probiotics might help.

The spasm clenching in my gut was caused by taking the DMSA. The

diet that worked for me last time it happened and cleared it up, is

the same diet I'm on now. I have not changed anything or allowed

anything to creep back in, but things are not working. Just the way

it's gone this time around. I blame DMSA for causing this and just

wanted to know if anybody else has experienced the gut thing from it

and whether it abated after a certain amount of time.

Thanks for your comments though, I appreciate what you're saying and

know that it's easy for yeast to get a hold and other foods to still

be causing issues. I just think DMSA is not for me because i'm

obviously far too vulnerable to candida or gut problems to use it.

My liver is also an issue, which is going to be dealt with when I

next see the doctor. If I use antifungals etc, I just end up getting

far far worse and more toxic and my body cannot seem to eliminate the

toxins.

As for dairy products, I don't really have much, just plain

acidophilus yoghurt sometimes, which is organic and contains all the

good bacteria. But perhaps I do need to take probiotics, I'm just

wary to because of my reactions to them. But we'll see.

Well, DMSA can definitely increase yeast/bacteria problems, as you

know. I have had this happen during/after rounds. Probiotics help

a lot.

If the liver problems are addressed well, then you will be able

to deal with both the candida and the mercury better. I hope the

doctor provides a good program for your liver. It would be a good

idea to share the recommendations with folks here to make sure it

is safe - there might be small adjustments that would make it safer

for you. Don't forget to watch out for ALA in any recommended

supplements. My doctor has recommended supplements with ALA and,

in some cases when the supplement is basically a good product, I

have adjusted her dosage and frequency so that I am taking it on

a good protocol.

That's right, I forgot about your die-off and/or mercury symptoms

from probiotics. Yikes. Again, once you get the liver issues

under better control, you may be able to start probiotics, slowly.

When will you get your doctor's liver recommendations? I hope

soon. I think it will help you a lot if it is a good, safe

recommendation.

I can't wait to see you start improving! Hang in there, !

I've never had this particular problem but I wonder if you cant

tolerate probiotics some other intestinal cleanser/soother would help

like triphala and/or flax seeds with extra magnesium to help relax

the tension and get things moving? Or aloe vera maybe?

What about doing an enema to help clear the blockage. Either plain

water enemas or or add salt or apple cider vinegar eg just 1 teaspoon

in a pint of water (it can sting if you use too much). Aloe vera or

liquid chlorophyll enemas can be soothing too.
