Guest guest
Hi , I am not too sure about the thimble full of food. When I left the hospital (SSF) I was given a little cup which held about maybe 3 tablespoons but even that at first seemed a lot. Just be careful when you eat so that you don't eat too fast. I ate my egg scrambled which is the only way I can eat eggs. I really don't care for eggs that much. Also anytime you try a new food do it at home. Your taste will be off for a bit and there are some foods that might not agree with you. It is normal to stop losing for a couple of days. That is because your body is trying to catch-up with the sudden weight lose. It will start up again. Ramona
Guest guest
Ack, , I wish I could help you but I had problems with this thimble-full concept too. Finally I just took a small bite (about a half of a spoonful) of each new food. Can't help with the egg whites either, as I'm allergic. Varying weight loss is EXTREMELY common. The 25 pounds in 10 days was likely mostly water weight, as they pump you full of IV's in the hospital and your body is getting rid of those. My advice would be to weigh only once a week (but no one ever listens to that advice, ha ha). The scale will drive you crazy! I went on a "scale diet" where I refused to get on the scale more than once a month. It just made me too depressed. I also refused to post my weight (one yahoogroup I'm on signs every post with their starting, goal, and present weight). I found myself becoming obsessed, depressed, feeling like a loser -- all due to what the numbers on the scale said. If I lost I had a good day, and if not -- I was miserable! Finally decided that it wasn't worth it...I wasn't going to have some piece of metal and springs be my measure of success. My clothes were a much better measurement, as they amazingly stopped shrinking and started getting bigger!!! Hang in there, . I'm sure others will share food ideas. Laurie W. 2 weeks Okay ... Question time ... so, tomorrow is the first day i can try "soft solids". The education book from PB says to try 1 thimball full at one meal and then 2 Thumb. the next time and then 3 the next ... which is what the size of the meal will be. BUT ... later on in Stage 4 it says to worok up to 1/4 cup of yougurt or cottage cheese. SO -- can someone explain to me the reality of this? ALso - what is the best way to try the egg white? ONe more thing ... I lost 25 pounds within 10 days and now for the last two days .... nothing. Guest guest
We are only one day apart so I'll give you my take on this. I went stage 2 as of last week, I was only on stage 1 for a week. Meals I guess are different for Kaiser because we are one ounces, each meal on this stage as was stage one was is 2 ounces, I kinda push that boundary some and have 21/2 to 3 ounces. Egg whites it's best to use an egg substitute, I found that to work best for me, it's also what I used during my pre-op diet. You can also separate the yoke from the egg white but that's a lot of work to me. The weight lose is the same as I experienced, I lost about 25 lbs very quickly and now I've stabled out. Hope this helps you some. Danny Monge 4/12/04 Dr. Park Kaiser Richmond 2 weeks Okay ... Question time ... so, tomorrow is the first day i can try "soft solids". Guest guest
--- Yes thats normal...your body may be thinking you are starving it and is holding on to it a bit...it will come off again. As for the thimble thing..I didnt get that. My doc said try 2 oz but stop when full. In gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients , vantuyl@a... wrote: > Okay ... Guest guest
When I left the hospital Dr Zorn told me to try to have a scrambled egg as my first meal after two weeks. He said just to plan on eating about 4 or 5 small bites and I would feel a fulness and that meant it was time to stop. I was really glad that he had told me. Eggs have been easy for me to eat right from the beginning. > Okay ... Question time ... so, tomorrow is the first day i can try " soft > solids " .
