Guest guest
I don't think you are crazy to wait, but only if it is safe to wait the extra few days and she will not be in danger due to waiting. My son had 4 blood transfusions and all of the blood came from my husband. There were times when the blood center would break the rules and let my husband donate sooner than the 8 weeks. We moved mountains to get the blood there on time, I did my best not to use banked blood. However, during one of his surgeries it was too late, and we had no choice but to go with bank blood, but luckily he didn't need the blood. Definitely speak up if you are uncormfortable. Question about posponing surgery tomorrow, please respond I wanted to get gut feelings from people about electing to pospone surgery in favor of giving my baby donated blood as opposed to from the blood bank. We called the blood bank Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday last week about donating blood for my daughter's surgery and they kept giving us the runaround telling us they would get back to us. Now they tell us it is too late as her surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I'm so furious about this. And I don't understand. I would think they'd be thrilled to get more donations. I have a background in microbiology so I know that as safe as they try to make the blood it is impossible to know for sure. As I said before, she has coarctation and VSD. She is stable, experiencing a little mild heart failure. She'll be 7 days old tomorrow morning. Obviously, I'm going to ask the cardiologist what he thinks, but I wanted to hear what you guys think. If we really push it, maybe we could even get the blood by Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. What do you think? Rochel
