Guest guest
Hi Jen, Huzzah!!! This is such great news. It really reminds me of why this surgery is so important to us. It is great to get into smaller sizes and so on, but health improvements are so so vital. I am so happy for you! All the best, Kay open RNY 12/1/03 Jen Hogsett wrote: Okay you guys . . . I think I've been in shock or denial or just some dream/fantasy state for the past 10 days, but I have to share this. My PCP recommended I research this surgery for myself not specifically because of my weight, but because we could not control my diabetes. Insulin caused me to gain weight, and as my weight increased, I needed to increase my insulin. In 2000, I was taking 6 units of insulin each day (4 in a.m. and 2 in p.m.) to control my diabetes, but by the time my surgery came around in March of 2003 I was taking 78 units/day (36 in a.m. & 42 in p.m.)!!! Well, it was a huge step for me to be taken on insulin and all other diabetes medication when I was released from the hospital after surgery, but when I went to see my PCP last week, she told me that my blood sugars are excellent and she's taking me off the diabetic registry in Kaiser's database. I'm no longer considered diabetic!!! :-D I almost feel like my bubbles going to pop, because when my daughter was born, my blood sugars looked real good for about a year (until I stopped producing breast milk), and then they sky-rocketed again. I was heart-broken when I had to go on diabetes meds and then eventually insulin again (I was diagnosed with diabetes while I was pregnant). Anyway, I still have 23 pounds to go to hit my goal weight, but my real goal was just to control my diabetes, and I think I've passed that test with flying colors! I just had to share this with you all - maybe it will make it seem more real to me! The only people I've told are my husband, mom & step-dad. I haven't even told my dad or my grandmother yet!! Hugs to all! Jen
