Guest guest
Welcome, Tig! I've been a Kaiser member for quite some time, and let me tell you my little secret. I go to a PCP *the first time* and tell him/her the problems I've had in the past. Tell him/her exactly what I am looking for in a PCP. I also bring a list of things I'm concerned about on that particular day. They can see my list, and they know I'm not leaving until I've addressed the things that are on it. Now, don't bring in a list of 50 things, but 4 or 5 would gladly be answered. My PCP's have been extremely kind and attentive to me when I approach them this way. Let them know that you are actively involved in your own health, that you have researched WLS, and that you are involved in one or more support groups (even online ones). Then they know you're serious. One of my doctors even confessed that he is hesitant to refer patients for WLS because there is a lot of paperwork on his part, and only one in five go through with it. (I can't vouch for his statistics). But I assured him that NOTHING was going to stop me, and his paperwork time would be well invested. I also joked that he'd see me a lot less during the year, due to the weight loss decreasing my ongoing health problems. And that indeed has happened. Docs like hearing that you're well-informed and are willing to take an active part in your own success. Really. :-) Just my 2 cents. Laurie W. New here with quest for a PCP Hello everyone!I'm new to the group and have found in the short time here the support and help here is wonderful. You all are so kind !.So here is my problem: I'm interested in finding a PCP of good character and not one that pushes you out the door the moment you enter. This has been a major problem for me. I'm in the researching mode of the WLS quest and would love to have a positive doctor in that. So far I've had 3 pcp with Kaiser and I'm not impressed. First one ignored anything I said, second gave me a hard time about getting info for weight loss and the third one basically said i've 15 mins and there isn't enough time to talk about much, when asked is there a certain apt I can make so I could have the time she said no. Of course she had enough time to ask me repeatedly if I was depressed and tell me all my problems are because I'm heavy < shocker huh>Sorry to VENT as well but I'm at the end of my rope.I'm located in Palmdale / Lancaster area, at this point willing to travel to see a PCP that will be a doctor not a revolving door with a smile.Thank you all so muchTig
